Bill Davis Racing Qualifying Request Mike Brown, general manager at Bill Davis Racing, recently submitted a plan to NASCAR to change qualifying. Instead of guaranteeing the top 35 in points a starting spot each week, Brown's plan would put more emphasis on qualifying. The top 31 in speed make the field. The final 12 spots would go to the highest remaining cars in car owner points not already in the field. The only champion's provisional would go to the defending champion. Since that driver likely would be among the top 12 in car owner points if he wasn't fast enough, this would all but eliminate the provisional. I like the way this guy thinks. But we know we can only wish it was this way.

Re: Bill Davis Racing Qualifying Request I think it should be the fastest 43 too. But 31 would be a good start. Heck compared to what they got now, top 20 would be a good start. Your top tier teams would still make it in the race, but it would give alot of others a chance also. Which is why they won't do it. But it sure would be nice if they would.

| Re: Bill Davis Racing Qualifying Request if you remember... it was the owners who complained to NASCAR (on behalf of their sponsors) to do something to help the top running cars who had an "occasional" bad day qualifying. NASCAR gave them "the Chosen". NASCAR won't change that until the owners ask them to. now an owner has .. but will other owners agree???

Re: Bill Davis Racing Qualifying Request I don't think there should be a chosen. If Jr or Gordon don't make it in the top 43 fastest, send them home. So the fans get upset. As we know, we get upset and we get over it. It might would make them tighten up the next time. Make them work to be in the race. If they have to have a gauranteed set, I say gaurantee the top 10 a starting spot.

Re: Bill Davis Racing Qualifying Request If a change isn't made I hope the top 35 rule comes back to bite Nascar in the rear. Remember at the beginning of the year when Dale Jr had all the bad luck and was almost out of the top 35. I was just rooting that he not make a race. Don't get me wrong I like Jr to a point, but I just wanted the rule that Nascar made to keep their brightest star out of the race.
