| Re: Montoya Fans: Cat got your tongue? I have no special affinity for Juablo, PPH. However, I do admire his ability to adjust so quickly to a type of race car completely foreign (no pun intended) to him. I believe his win at Sears Point was, if anything, predictable. I'll be moderately surprised if he doesn't repeat at Watkins Glen. I still think Robby and Tony had the best cars at Sears Point but had sucko pit strategy, or maybe the cautions didn't fall as well for them as they could have. I believe both will be in contention at The Glen. If Ron Fellows gets a good ride, he'll be in the mix also. What has amazed me about Sears Point is why no one here has said anything about Jamie McMurray? Talk about a kid who came out of nowhere! A pole and if he'd get the knack of rolling through the corners and not lighting up his rear wheels, he might have had enough fuel to battle Montoya at the end? My vote for outstanding performance of the weekend is McMurray, and since his defecating on the contract he had with Ganassi, the kid isn't a driver I care to see do well.

I stated so elsewhere on GTG that Robby had the best car and Jamie 2nd best. but I never saw Tony exhibit the same strength as Jamie. that said, I still think Robby and Jamie would have been 1-2 without their respective (sucko) pit strategies with Tony & JPM battling for the other podium spot. Jamie drove a good race until they told him he didn't have enough gas .. then things sort of fell apart when JPM got on his tail .. like he was trying to server two masters (fuel economy and race leading) without success at either.

Juablo is around 250 points out of the playoff. I don't think that he can make it this year, but it's a possibility. he's now going back to tracks he's run before and the guy is a quick learner. I'll say he'll finish in the top 15, within 50 points of the playoff, IF he doesn't pull a rabbit out of his sombrero and make the final twelve. And no. I'm not a Juablo fan, I'm a realist. |

This is merely a "diversion" for Juablo. He doesn't need the money nor the notoriety. At first I thought that he'd tire of the whole thing by the BY400 and announce his "retirement shortly after that race. Now I'm not so sure. However, I definitely do not see him sticking around for over 3-4 years, at the outside. But then I'm, the same guy who thought that both Casey Atwood and Brendon Gaughn had a long future in store for them in Cup, so what do I know? |
