That's where the difference lies. Sure Earnhardt's ways were unorthodoxed (???) but that stuff was always refered to as racin. JPM just can't deal with people being in front of him it seems like.

I don't know. It's really hard to explain my position without backing myself into a corner.

And to be honest with you, I didn't jump on the Earnhardt bandwagon until later in his career, maybe '94-'95 on.

BBW i really have grown to respect your opinion, but that really sounds like 6 of one 1/2 a dozen of the other to me

Yeah, I should have worded that better. I'll just leave it at the fact that Juan needs to show a little more maturity before I'm on the wagon. There's no doubt the man is talented. Anybody has to respect the fact that he has won all there is to win everywhere he's gone.

I think Chip Ganassi summed up JPM pretty well after the race today. He said Juan doesnt need the money and does not race to live...........he lives to race. Like Jimmy Spencer said, he plays by his own rules and is afraid of nobody.

I don't know I think the only difference between Dale and Juan is that Dale earned his respect on the track winning everything. I think alot of Nascar fans don't see Juan as an accomplished racer because he hasn't won anything in Nascar. They think he hasn't earned anything. Then there are some people like me that see what he has done. Some fans out there not saying any here but alot of fans don't know racing outside of Nascar. So Juan Pablo really is a rookie to them. So they see this rook beating and banging on people and they get offended. They don't think he is on the level of Gordon or Stewart. Sometimes I feel some of the racers think the same thing.

unlike some other forms of racing, NASCAR is almost archaic in the way drivers are "accepted" into the fold. for the "old guard", unless a driver has a bloodline traced to the hills of Georgia or the Carolinas and 20 odd years learning the craft at the feet of "the masters", they haven't paid their dues. it doesn't matter what they may have accomplished in "the outside world", THIS IS NASCAR and by golly, you have to pay your dues and earn your respect here!!!

Michael Schumacher thumbed his nose at NASCAR. Said it couldn't teach him anything, he wasn't interested... in reality, I think he didn't want to be placed into the bottom of the NASCAR caste system. JPM doesn't have that problem .. he has tens of millions of spanish speaking fans who think he's KING so he doesn't care what the "old guard" think - and he sure doesn't need their money!

I bet if Chip asked him to race for free he'd bolt in a minute. It is never about the money when they are already making millions. It is never about the millions, it is always about winning a championship. Although I do think all Nascar drivers care about winning and running good for the team. I just don't think any of them would do it be under paid.

I never said he didn't want the money .. only that he is already incredibly rich and doesn't "need" any more.

why should anyone want to work for less than their market value? it's one thing to donate time to a project you support, it's quite another to "give away" your talent/skils/expertise so that someone else can profit.

many drivers love their job. some, like Carl Edwards, continually comment on how lucky are to be where they are and to be paid so much to do something they love. but I don't know of any driver whose income from racing is immaterial or insignificant in their life. it is, after all, their job.

I think when it comes down to it, it's about the money. Just like anybody else in any job, with more than 1 offer, they're gonna go where they can make the most. If they don't then something is wrong with them.

I doubt Montoya is making 1/3 of what he did in F1, he quit on his own to race in Cup. So, in his case, its obviously not the money.

im not so sure about that dude ........ i do know he is making much more in NASCAR for prize money .... as for his contract i dont know specifics from either his Cup contract or F1, but figure Jr is getting like $20 million to show up ..... yes i know JPM isnt Jr, but still he has a huge international following that has to deserve a good contract

I heard when they interview Ganassi he said JPM don't need the money.
