Biffle to Re-Negotiate ???

BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Greg Biffle says he's 90 percent sure he will sign an extension with Roush Fenway Racing beyond the end of his contract next season.

But he added that won't happen until he sees an improvement with the performance of his team, which is 19th in points.
"If I am not happy, why should I negotiate?" he said before Friday's practice at Michigan International Speedway. "I need to run better. We've got a couple of weak links. We want to strengthen our team a little better. We need to show up at the race track being competitive off the truck.
"I didn't forget how to drive at Pocono. We were 43rd at Pocono before qualifying. Qualified 42nd and ran 30th. And I am not going to sign a 5-year extension running like that."
Team owner Jack Roush is confident things will turn around.
"There isn't an imminent need for a conversation with Greg about a contract," he said. "We have a contract in place for 2008, and I think he's very comfortable with that, and I am as well.
"The feeding frenzy that goes on in the media regarding contracts for the future is something that we don't want to be a distraction right now. What happens in 2009 isn't nearly as important as the testing we just did at [Milwaukee] yesterday and the other testing we've got in front of us."
Unlike former Roush teammate Kurt Busch, who asked for his release after signing a deal with Penske Racing a year and a half before his Roush deal was complete, Biffle said he will honor his contract in 2008.
"Because I am convinced that we have the ability to make this a championship-caliber car and team," he said. "We have all the tools and resources we need. We have to execute it as far as management side of things.
"We have to have good people. Technology, we have to get better at. We're getting the seven post machine. But we're getting better and better and better."
Biffle's name has come up in several openings, including replacing Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 8 at Dale Earnhardt Inc. next season.
"I'm not trying to figure out a way leave," Biffle said. "I'm trying to figure out a way to win and get in the Chase right now and win the championship. I'm focused on winning five races this season.
"I'm not at the Junior stage yet. The Junior stage is next year for me. Not this year."

Re: Biffle to Re-Negotiate ???

It's gonna surprise me if he stays there. In 2010 Jack has got to drop a team. I don't see him getting rid of Matt or Carl and I don't know when Jamie's contract is up. Maybe Biffle should go to another team. It might help him start doing better. Look what it did for Burton.

McMurray and Biffle would probably be the first considered to go and I would guess that Biffle would have a better chance of staying at Rousch than Jamie because of his past. Seems like it might be more of "what does Biffle want to do" versus what Rousch wants. Of course all that could get turned around depending on what drivers are looking for new homes at that point.

Where There Is Smoke, There Is Fire. Biffle Needs To Go. A Fresh Start Is What He Needs. He Looks Good In Fords, So Why Not Ryr? They Need A Total Driver Overhaul.

Look what it did for Mark Martin. Since Roush started the 5th team IMO all his teams have suffered.

Re: Biffle to Re-Negotiate ???

I'm not saying it's because he has 5 teams. Because all 5 teams have run good. But Biffle does seem to be in a rut. They keep changing crew chiefs around and all that. Maybe a new start with a new team will help him.

I'm never against change and I'd much rather see Biff with RYR than Kyle. Biffle is far more mature and subdued. Good sportsman also.

Kevin Harvick might argue with that.

Re: Biffle to Re-Negotiate ???

Biffle would do good where ever he is. He's a great driver and not overly aggressive, but can be agressive when he needs to be. I like Biffle.

Re: Biffle to Re-Negotiate ???

I think there are alot of teams tht would like biffle on their team. I can see him going to another ford team like RYR, or maby moving to the chevy camp wich is obviously the top make rite now, sighning with DEI. I also think if a team was to be dropped from the roush camp, Mcmurray would go. Maybe biffle will resign with roush but i doubt it with the past season he had there, and the way this season has gotten off as well

He won't sign until the team improves? Gee, didn't Roush just let one of the top ten crew chiefs (Pat Tryson) go last month? (Which I have heard that Biffle is still livid about) Yup, sure looks like a good way to step up a team's performance to me, yup!

My uneducated guess is that The Biff and Roush are soon to be history.
