Driver Brand Loyalty

i wonder what you guys think about NASCAR driver brand loyalty ..... by that i mean do you buy things because a driver endorses them ?

i remember reading an article that said a lady fan only used Tide because of Ricky Rudd

is it like that for you or anyone you know ?

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

my purchases are not defined at all by drivers i like ..... would anyone here like Tony Stewart enough to spend a couple extra dollars on something at Home Depot instead of the Lowes across town ?

or maybe drink Pepsi instead of Coke because of JG ......... or stop drinking Miller because of Kurt Busch ?

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

Not like that for me. I buy what I like. My daughter, who is a huge Gordon fan, bought some of his energy drinks. She didn't like them at all and I thought they were pretty decent. Thats about all we've really tried just because of a driver.

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I drive a Ford truck and obviously I am a Jeff Gordon fan. I am a loyal fan though. If Jeff drove a chevy, ford, dodge or even a toyota I would still pull for him. Also my drink of choice is Diet Coke

Yeah, I'm with you. I really don't see how someone can tie what they consume to who they root for. I've heard that some people boycott Lowes, but I like the store, not to mention that there is no competing Home Depot in my area, so it's not like I have a ton of a choice. But you root for who you like, and you buy the products you like and shop at the stores you like, and the two really shouldn't be connected.

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

if there are two compareable products, and one is a sponsor of a driver I like and the other is either not in nascar or a sponsor of an unliked driver, I will usaually go with the liked driver product, but not 100% of the time

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I'm a long time Chevy fan. That said, I've owned just about all the American brands and several of the foreign brands.

But for my racing, my Ford Taurus bodied Super Late Model with its Chevy engine was towed to the races with a Dodge pickup. (It was kinda comical when die-hard Ford fans came up to me after the races and saw the bowtie under the hood! ) When I had to change the body because of new rules, I changed to a Pontiac Grand Prix because I wanted my car to be different from the 70% Monte Carlo field (there was only one other Grand Prix in our series.) However, I don't remember ever cheering for a Pontiac in NASCAR, though I have cheered for Fords, Dodges, Plymouths, and, now, Toyotas.

Though I don't care for Johnson or Stewart, I still shop at Lowes and Home Depot... I like Jr. but that Bud ain't for me. Snickers and M&M's are my favorite however I'm ambivalent about Rudd and Gilliland. I like Blaney but have no plans for heavy machinery. I'm a Navy guy although I like Martin who drives the Army car. And even when he drove the 6 car, I felt no need to buy "The Purple Pill"...

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I buy what I want because it is what "I" want. When Jr pays me to drink Bud I'll have a fridge full of it, until then I'll drink what "I" want.

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I buy what I want but I do have to admit I bought a lot more M&M's than I ever had before when Elliott Sadler was driving the 38 car

I buy what I want! When Bobby drove for Interstate, I did buy some AA batteries for my scanner! My Girlfriend just rolled her eyes at me! I just couldn't resist showing her, just to see her reaction! BTW, they were WAYYYYYYYYYYY overpriced at the trailer!

Nope! I try not to buy anything there! Just food. Batteries had to be bought there though! I can't be without the race broadcast! I could just kick myself. Now I always carry extras. Another expensive life lesson!

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I'm not particularly loyal to brand of car, but I am partial to DeWalt power tools and Jack Danel's. Of course I was partial to them long before I started watching NASCAR races and cheering for Matt Kenseth & Clint Bowyer.

Actually, in Bowyer's case... I noticed him BECAUSE of the Jack Daniel's logo splashed across the car. That he is a driver worth cheering for just makes it all the sweeter.

Re: Driver Brand Loyalty

I've been a DJ fan since I guess it would be the Wood brothers he drove for. I worked for UPS when they became his sponsor and everyone thought it was because I worked for Brown that I rooted for DJ.... WRONG... I actually dispised that Brown Hell Hole even more. I have to say I by the stuff I like when I want it. Don't give a rats patoot about who endorses it or has it for a sponsor. I drink Pepsi but have a strong dislike for Gordon.
