Hmmmm, okay class... lets analyze this statement. As most would say it is an opinion, but used in this instance.. it is indeed a fact. That's the end of today's lesson. I hope you all learned something

I was watching a show last night and someone mentioned Dale Jr. as a "LEGEND" The boy has been in the sport for 7 years and is already considered a legend, he hasnt even won a championship or finished runner up in the points.
Yet you win 4 championships (3rd best ever), win 75 races (6th best and about to knock Earnhardts # of wins), countless of poles, 3 Daytona 500's, 4 Indy races and 6 Darlington races and people still dont even think your great????

Dupont... I agree with your statement about Jr not being a legend. He's not.. yet. I have admitted Jeff Gordon is a hell of a driver. In my eyes though(and apparently I'm not the only one), he'll never be great. That's just the way it is. It's like me convincing you DJ's career is not over. You'll never buy it and continue to say he needs to retire.

Dupont, stats are not the only thing that befit greatness.

Quality...your a very mature and intelligent person...please answer this honestly. What if Dale Jarrett won 4 championships (3rd best ever), won 75 races (6th best and about to knock Earnhardts # of wins), countless of poles, 3 Daytona 500's, 4 Indy races and 6 Darlington races, would you think DJ is a great driver????

Greatness as a racer, stats are the only way. Thats why everyone knows who people like Michael Jordon, Babe Ruth, Tiger Woods, Richard Petty, etc. are. No one cares if they were arrogant or whined or b*tched all the time, the fact is that they were the best at what they did and thats why they are going to be remembered forever.

Funny thing you mentioned Jordan, Ruth, Woods and Petty. None of them would qualify as a whiny *****. However...

Only if he was stay a class act like he is now. If acted like some of these punk drivers and even acted like Gordon, then no. It's not the stats that make me like a driver. Hell, I root for Ken Schrader, Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte. On paper some drivers look great. That don't mean diddly squat to me. I root for DJ because he is one of the few class acts on the track left( I've been following him since a little before he drove for Gibbs). Granted he is not perfect and is no angel, but he is not arrogant, and not two-face and whatever else alot of these idiots have become. Dale Earnhardt is not great in some folks eyes(I'm not saying he wasn't, just pointing out the fact that not everyone thinks he was great). It's in the eyes of the fans. I hate Gordon with a passion, you love him and think he's great. That's what makes us fans. We have our opinions, and will not always agree, and alot of times will not change our opinions. That's the life of a fan. If you think he's great... your entitled to think so. I don't think he is... I'm entitled to think so. That's what makes being a fan great.

People know the stats of these folks, true... but that's not what they are remembered for. Jordon had a gift that made him anamazing basketball player. It was amazing to sit and watch him play. He's remebered for his god like moves on the court. Petty, well he was an amazing driver, that had a passion for racing and knew how to make a car run and was highly respected by many fans and his peers. Alot of folks don't think about the stats first when they think of those people. Yes stats look good on paper, but alot of folks don't remember people for stats.

Nice post 88. It really does say a lot about what fans are. The bad part about fans is the part that makes us angry towards other fans. We all have passions for this driver and that driver. It can be difficult to appreciate anothers point of view when we dislike their hero. I hope for the most part that the worst of it is a post or two that states that your driver is a jerk and mine is the best. Luckily for me I have no single driver/team that I cheer for and none that I completely dislike. I cheer for the sport with a group of teams that I would like to see win. More than anything now I'd like to see NA$CAR return to its true roots ... but I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon.

Dupont You are taking what is said on here way to personally. I love everyone on this forum, but we make up a tiny tiny portion of NASCAR fans. Your Guy is "The Rainbow Warrior" and he is a legend in his own. Now you just be proud.

Very good Grandma. I am neither a fan nor detractor of Jeff Gordon. However, no matter what the Jeff Gordon haters may think, he will be a legend based on his career acheivements alone.
