JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

I hate that title analogy, but I have to ask.

Since you guys brought JPM to my attention, I've been following his performance in Cup. What the h*ll is the fascination? I don't care what he did before joining Cup. He appears to be another Robby Gordon: an accident waiting to happen.

I know this has been discussed before, but I've been watching JPM over the past several weeks and I just don't see him, or anyone else, as a strong contender for Rookie of the Year.

Tell me! Tell me!

Re: JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

well PPS as i seem to be the only real fan he has here i may be a little biased but i think he is having a respectable year

consider he has never really driven these cars before, where as most everyone else on the track has spent years in these cars in BGN

he is 22nd in points and has a top 5 and 2 top 10's .......... seems real respectable to me

all the road courses are still to come which i think will give him a little advantage

i would say it is very possible he could finish the season in the top 20 in points ..... not bad for any rookie is it ?

Re: JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

Hi Penny, welcome back .. you have been missed.

Rookie of the Year - current standings according to NASCAR.COM
  1. Montoya - 1159
  2. Ragan - 1029
  3. Menard - 665
  4. Reutimann - 488
  5. Allmendinger - 284
looks like JPM is the clear leader at this moment. unless Ragan can gain some ground I don't see the much changing. my guy AJ is finally starting to get some good runs, so he has a chance of gaining a spot.

unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) Top Rookie isn't a popularity contest.

Tough to argue with the numbers. Not a real stellar field anyway.

well i agree 100% winning ROY means little ....... if everyone stinks then the winner stinks just a little less

but think about it, JPM may finish in the top 20 in points with like i said relatively no experience ....... that's fairly impressive in my book, like him or not

Anything above 21 1/2 place is above average. Of course there are more than 43 overall places but I wil lagree that for a rookie he's doing ........ OK

someone research the average points finish for the past 10 or so ROY's then we have something solid to compare him to

Personally I can't stand him right now. I put him in the same category as Kyle Busch... the potential to be a great driver, but the arrogance and bad attitude makes them too dangerous to be out there.

I tried to give him a chance when he first came on, but his demeanor turned me off quickly. Maybe if he mellows out I'll give him another chance, but right now, blech!

You'd think he take a lesson from his idiotic brother. I didlike the attitudes of the both of them but I think Penske is trying to change Kurt's image.

Re: JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

Since I've only been watching seriously since last year, I really haven't seen the darker side of Kurt Busch.

Kyle on the other hand... egads! Only thing that he has going for him that keeps him from being completely irredeemable is that he pulled Greg Biffle out of a burning car. Boy's got a lot of growing up to do.

That was Kyle, wasn't it?

As I said Kurt has changed in the past year. I still don't care for him, after all he is a Busch.

Re: JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

As far as JPM, I think he's doing pretty good for someone who hasn't drove these cars that much til now, and alot of the tracks, he's never been on. As a rookie he's doing good. But I still don't agree with them bringing him straight to cup. I feel like regardless of what series they drove in and how well they done, when they first get to Nascar they should have to run at least 1 year in Busch and get alittle experience with these cars.

I agree. Not very fond of JPM right now. If he can't drive a car with fenders, he should go back to open wheel. I don't think he's as good as he "thinks" he is. Didn't Stewart come straight from open wheel?

As for the Busch brats, can't stand em!
