Good send off article on J.P. Thanks.

I personally believe the operand word in your quote is "Potentially."

It is my understanding (and that is STRICTLY RUMOR) that Schumacher's salary with Ferrari was the equivalent of $40 million American, plus a high percentage of winnings, plus endorsements in Europe. Since J.P. is a multiple F1 winner and has a large fan base all over the world, I would assume (dangerous thing to do, I know...) that his yearly income is only slightly below that.

Even with an international sponsor like Texaco, I don't see Chip ponying up that kind of dinero. However, I see J.P. making a fortune on sales of stuff out of the trailers, plus anyone else selling NASCAR stuff. I don't know for sure but I have a feeling advertising sells on American TV for a lot more than it does in other parts of the world. Ergo a potential increase in endorsements.

Plus, with Jr.'s declaring himself a free agent, I believe that the base salary for almost every NASCAR driver will go through the roof within the next three years.

Whether he'll make more here than in the rest of the world, only J.P. and his accountant knows. One thing is for sure; he's already passed more cars this season then he ever would have in F1, for his entire career. That alone is worth something to a kid like Juan Pablo.

I see alot of Bobby Hillin in him, except with much more humility, which at this point isn't saying much. He's a firey guy who for some reason seems completely oblivious to the way things are supposed to be done. The difference is Hillin never learned. Johnny Montoya I think will. His attitude if nothing else is open to learning a few things.

Re: JPM: Beating a Dead Horse?

so far this year JPM has earned $1,652,452 ........ and the season is only about 1/3 of the way over so it seems he should earn over 4 million this season in earnings

conversely in 2005 with 17 starts, 2 wins, and 13 top 10's, Dario Franchitti won $1,299,555 in earnings on the Indycar series

he also grew up a world away from NASCAR which has to be a big learning curve

I have to disagree. Gordon is nothing like Sr. and Montoya is nothing like either Gordon or Sr. Not from what I've seen so far any way.

I think you mean "winnings." methinks JPM's "earnings" are much higher because of the souvenir and promotional earnings...

I didn't say Gordon was like Sr. I said Montoya has that kind of Gordon style, mixed in with Sr's style.

JPM is nothing like either of them. Both Gordon and Sr could actually drive a race car.

No, but I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Tony was the same a few years ago. He came on like a jerk and finally attempted to change. His true colors came out just as Kurt's have. I've never liked either of the Busch boyz but wanted to believe that maybe Penske had something to do with changing him. Not so I guess. I suppose if I have to I can go back to disliking him openly and have justifiable reasons why.

I thought the same thing after the All-Star race. Now look at him.
