Mayfield gets new crew chief ...

NA$CAR has lifted the lifetime suspension of David Hyder and Bill Davis racing has picked him up to be Jeremy Mayfield's crew chief. NASCAR.COM - Hyder's suspension lifted, new crew chief for Mayfield - May 26, 2007. Hyder was banned indefinitely by NA$CAR when the "mysterious substance" was found in Mikey's fuel system at Daytona earlier this year.

I'm sure BDR must have lobbied NA$CAR pretty hard to get the suspension lifted. Does Hyder deserve another chance?

Sure why not. Todd Berrier and Chad Knaus and all the other cheating crew chiefs keeps getting another chance, why not this one.

If he is guilty ... then no. The real question is .... is he guilty ???

The way I feel is that cheating is cheating, regardless of what you do, it's still cheating. If one crew chief is caught cheating and given another chance, why not give all of em another chance. If your not gonna give this one another chance then don't give the others another chance either. He's not the only one caught cheating this year. So why should he be the only one not given another chance?

he took the fall .. but you raise a good question. if he didn't cheat, who's he protecting? (he's back with a Toyota team .. maybe that has something to do with it???)

if you slap the hand of one and turn around and throw the next one in jail, there seems to be an inequity. however, NA$CAR uses "situational ethics" to determine whether offenses are equal or not.

to me there's only 3 possibilities: 1) guilty; 2) have to blame somebody; or 3) not guilty. I've heard nothing to indicate to me whether he's guilty by 1 or 2...

Re: Mayfield gets new crew chief ...

I know Nascar looks at it different. But I say cheating is cheating, I don't care by what degree. Whether it be substance in the fuel tank, car is to low or the wrong bolts, it's all cheating. But I do believe if you let other cheating crew chiefs stay, how can you not let this one.

well you got to figure they are going to keep a close eye on him so I think the team hiring him is the one taking the chances.

I believe that Hyder drew the short straw to be the fall guy and fall on his sword.

Just like the Captain of a ship, it's Mikey's car, and Mikey's team. No matter who or what, Mikey has to accept ultimate culpability, IMNSVHO.

I would have said "Responsibility," but we all know that's a dirty word in today's society, right?
