The Chase - With the "New Math"

Thought I ought to get up to speed on the new Chase format for 2007. According to what I understand of Mr. France's new math approach, this would be the "seedings" at this moment:
  1. JimmyJohnson - 5040
  2. Jeff Gordon - 5030
  3. Matt Kenseth - 5010
  4. Jeff Burton - 5010
  5. Kevin Harvick - 5010
  6. Clint Boyer - 5010
  7. Kyle Busch - 5010
  8. Denny Hamlin - 5000
  9. Tony Stewart - 5000
  10. Carl Edwards - 5000
  11. Kurt Busch - 5000
  12. Jamie McMurray - 5000
Needless to say, it's a bit different than I expected...

I think the only one that isn't accurate is Clint Bowyer... he hasn't won a Cup race. Yet. Or do they award points for winning the pole as well? In that case, I guess it would be right.

good eye .. guess I moved my finger to the wrong column when I was writing down the winners. winners get 10 points per win, poles get zip .. so here's the correct seeding:
  1. Jimmy Johnson - 5040
  2. Jeff Gordon - 5030
  3. Matt Kenseth - 5010
  4. Jeff Burton - 5010
  5. Kevin Harvick - 5010
  6. Kyle Busch - 5010
  7. Denny Hamlin - 5000
  8. Tony Stewart - 5000
  9. Carl Edwards - 5000
  10. Kurt Busch - 5000
  11. Clint Boyer - 5000
  12. Jamie McMurray - 5000

this is how the chase points would be allocated if it were to begin today.

seeding is simple, each driver in the chase starts with 5000 points, then add 10 points for each win, and finally arrange them highest to lowest by Chase points then by season points (in case of a tie - like the 4 at the bottom each with 5000 Chase points.)

Re: The Chase - With the "New Math"

Sorry, Duck. I don't get into this new "Made for TV, Let's insure we have a artificially close points chase, make everyone equal then have the Points Fairy fly down and give some drivers a few bonus points and probably some none at all" format.

They had a format which wasn't broke. Why the Hell did they have to "fix" it?

This artificial excitement reminds me of a girl whom, in my impetuous youth, I almost married...But that's another story... <sigh>

I thoroughly agree. however I'll just update this thread from time to time so those that are interested can ***** about what should be instead of what is.

artificial excitement and girls are a dangerous combination.

Re: The Chase - With the "New Math"

ready for another round of complaining?

here's the Chase seedings as of New Hampshire:
  1. J. Gordon 5040
  2. J. Johnson 5040
  3. D. Hamlin 5010
  4. M. Kenseth 5010
  5. J. Burton 5010
  6. C. Edwards 5010
  7. K. Harvick 5010
  8. Kyle Busch 5010
  9. M. Truex, Jr. 5010
  10. T. Stewart 5000
  11. C. Boyer 5000
  12. D. Earnhardt, Jr. 5000
Tony's feeling the heat! a win would move him into 6th!!!

Boyer & Jr. are a point apart and either could be overtaken by Newman who's 127 points behind them or Jamie at 184 behind them. And Kurt Busch is trying to mount a charge at 236 back.

Re: The Chase - With the "New Math"

Ugh, Bowyer really needs a top 5, or better yet, a win (!!!) to move back up in the top 12. I hate seeing him at 11.
