With one race to the Chase, I see some questions and comments in various threads about the "seeding", especially now the "dream" scenario has reared its ugly head.

So, without further ado, here's the Chase seedings and associated points for each driver in the Chase at the moment. I've also added their current positions in points so you can see how wins are rewarded and consistency is penalized.

One other thing. There's been a lot of "what if" questions mainly focused on 13th place driver over taking the 12th place driver during the Chase. When you look at the numbers, you will see that currently the 13th place driver is about 800 points behind the leader and the leader is just shy of 1300 points below 5000 points. that means the 13th place driver would have to gain over 2100 points during the 10 race Chase (not possible at 190 pts/race) and the 12th place driver not start any of the Chase races in order for that scenario to become reality.

How can drivers with the same number of points be rated differently?

4 and 5 both have 5020. Why is Edwards ahead of Busch? Because where they "really" finished (or may finish) at the end of the regular season? 6-11 are all at 5010. Why the ranking? Same reason? Of course, none of this is going to matter after the first race of the Chase, right? Or will it?

I'm just trying to find some logic in all of this. Ooooooops! I said the "L" word! My bad!

The way it stands at this very moment is that Edwards is 4th in th epoints and Busch is 11th. Same number of wins so they use current postion as the tie breaker.
