Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600 Approximately 3 minutes of racing for each one minute of commercials. 298 total minutes of broadcast and 72 minutes of commercials. That leaves 226 minutes of race, which relates to about 3 to 1.

Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600 On another note races have times when there is no racing ... pit stops under caution. This affords the advertisers more time versus regularly scheduled TV programs.

Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600 Split screens are great. They do it on ESPN during the Indy. Even with no sound you at least get to see what is going on in real time. NASCAR and its advertisers want nothing to do with that idea.

| I like the split screen ABC did with the Indy 500, great idea! One thing my wife and I notice about the NASCAR commercials is the quality and the humor employed with them. One of our favorite commercials was the cell phone commerical where the driver pulls a rabbit out of his helmet. I know the whole product advertising thing on the cars and suits is all a part of racing, but can you imagine the same for the NFL? Dallas Cowboys with Lean Cuisine logos splash all over the helmets and uniforms playing the Cleveland Browns with Purina Cat Chow splashed all their helmets and uniforms?!

if I had to guess, the thing that's different about the commercials during the race, it's about good looking young drivers (and in some instances their crew.) the sponsors are putting big bucks into their commercials and want them to connect with that age group and one way is thru attractive "faces" and good clean humor. in more ways than one, these drivers are the face of the products they're promoting. that's pretty hard to do with football or basketball or other sports teams...

Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600 I've read that NASCAR viewership is down from what it once was. IMHO, and I have no experience to back this up, but I think that many of the "older" fans may have dropped out with the death of Dale Earnhardt, who in essence was NASCAR to many fans. In one NASCAR commercial it showed young fans playing hip hop, Michael Jordan was the Grand Master of the Coca Cola 600, I think it was during the All Star Challenge an African American sports figure got to wave the green flag. So it seems Nascar is trying to broaden it's demographic fan base both racially and age wise. (Nascar please no Hip Hop or freak dancing!!) Superbowl half-time shows have been complete failures! But why no female racers? Indy 500 there were 3 female racers I believe.
