True, but is that in defense of or an attack of the number of commercials? I'm sure like any TV program they schedule commercial breaks. Even the NFL does it with their "TV time outs". Live TV or not, the channel showing the NASCAR has has to sell commercial time slots just like anyone else and then honor those time slots to the best of their ability. They can't push a Budwiser commercial into a less-attractive half-hour time slot because of a long green flag run because then they risk losing that company as a sponsor.

IMHO, and I have no experience to back this up, but I think that many of the "older" fans may have dropped out with the death of Dale Earnhardt, who in essence was NASCAR to many fans.

In one NASCAR commercial it showed young fans playing hip hop, Michael Jordan was the Grand Master of the Coca Cola 600, I think it was during the All Star Challenge an African American sports figure got to wave the green flag. So it seems Nascar is trying to broaden it's demographic fan base both racially and age wise. (Nascar please no Hip Hop or freak dancing!!) Superbowl half-time shows have been complete failures!

But why no female racers? Indy 500 there were 3 female racers I believe.
It is evident to me that NA$CAR is going to do whatever it takes to put money in their pockets. If it means that there will be hip hop freak dancing (?) then we may well see it.

There may have been some fan loss when Sr died but I believe for many old time fans the change to corporate sponsorship and commercialism of the sport has taken NASCAR down a totaly different road then what us old fellas were used to seeing. It was more fun when a pit stop was quick at less than a minute, when the winner got a kiss by Miss Winston or Miss Somebody. It was great when a Chevy actually looked like a Chevy.

Yes .... I am over 30 !!!

Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600

well the best solution i have seen so far is split screen with the sound going to the commercial

if they did it that way they could run more commercials then they do now and i wouldnt mind

The only problem with that would be that they would have to charge considerably less per commercial, since the ad wouldn't be featured full-screen and people would likely be ignoring it in favor of the racing. It would hurt NASCAR's bottom line.

I've never done a SuperBowl halftime and that is just another large form of advertising.

You know what the ideal solution is? No commercial breaks with constant text ads running all race on a ticker at the bottom of the screen.

Is that proven to be cost effective ?

I've never seen any research, but I'm always catching myself looking at those darn things on ESPN or the Weather Channel.

Yes, I realize that's news and not ads but still... I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Re: Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Coca-Cola 600

without pay per view, we're gonna be stuck with some sort of "break in the action" to advertise the sponsors product. no way around it.

While pay per view might be the answer, I believe that viewership would really drop if we had to pay $15.00 or more per race.

I suspect that even at $25 a race, there'd be more tuning in than currently sit in the stands... will it reach the mega$$$ coming from TV? maybe not .. but it might! and the sports bars would be laughing all the way to the bank...

NASCAR did do it a few years ago. I forget what channel and what race.

Let's not forget that if it wasn't for the sponsors and the huge amount of money they pay to advertise during a race, where would NASCAR be?

However, the stats above are ridiculous.
