Ahh Subic Bay. I remember it well. They had some gal that looked and sang like Janis Joplin. She was great. Remember the bouncers with guns ... rifles ???

Long Live CVA-19

I think the Peso was worth about a dollar back then if my memory serves me correct. Maybe it was 2 for 1 ???

I stuck to the San Miguel (with the etched label). Buy it at a Sari-Sari store for about...? fifteen cents a bottle.

The worse was that French crap we used to get in-country, Baami-Baam. (33 beer) <shudder>

Latest Dale Jr. to 'news' MORE: Depending on who one believes in the Nextel Cup garage, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is headed either to Ginn Racing with sponsorship from Budweiser or Joe Gibbs Racing with backing from credit card giant Visa. Either way, expect an announcement next month. “We're trying not to comment too much on how things are going or what's going on until we can really have something to say, but I can tell you that things are positive,” Earnhardt said after qualifying on Friday. “I've just been overwhelmed with the personalities that I've met, with the owners and the individuals working at each company. There are certainly a lot of great people out there with good morals and good values and with great attitudes about the sport and about what they want to accomplish. It makes me feel good about where the sport's going to be in the next 5-10 years with some of these individuals I've met.”(SPEEDtv.com)
UPDATE: on FoxSports NASCAR pre-race from Dover, Jeff Hammond said sources tell him that Dale Earnhardt Jr, would sign with Joe Gibbs Racing and have sponsorship from VISA, with the announcement coming within the next 10-14 days.(6-3-2007)

Yeah I saw that too. But between DW having on the ginny hat and Hammond with the crystal ball, don't know how serious they were.

Being serious and how much they really know are two different things. If Jr. has any smarts at all those guys will be the last to know. Notice he (Jr.) is waiting until the village idiots are no longer in the booth before making any announcement. Coincidental ??? I think not.

Visa? Blah.

If Jr and Bud split, I don't think either will be as popular with a new driver/sponsor. They just go together!

Read an AP article to that degree over at Yahoo! Sports as well. With so many sources, I have to figure that there's truth to it. And JrIsGr8, Visa is a HUGE sponsor. Junior will get tons of exposure out of the deal. I don't see how it could be a bad thing for him.

Besides, I swore they said Bud's contract was with DEI, not Junior himself. Am I remembering that wrong?

I hope it is true. Would like to see at Gibbs instead of Hendricks.
Visa would be a good sponsor and he would get alot of exposure.
I'll have to find the article, but I read somewhere (Nascar.com I think) that Bud has it in their contract that they can leave DEI if Jr is no longer the driver.

Re: Gibbs Says No Beer Sponsor, Ginn Serious Contender

Gibbs: To Early To Talk About Adding Jr.

Just ask J.D. Gibbs.
Gibbs doesn't crave the limelight. He'd rather be home playing catch with his sons than addressing rumors regarding his race team. But Gibbs found himself in the center of two stories Sunday during the rain delay of the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Jeff Hammond reported during the pre-race show on FOX that sources had told him Dale Earnhardt Jr. would be driving for Joe Gibbs Racing next season.
"It's news to me that we're getting our information from Jeff Hammond now," said Gibbs. "We don't have anything new to say more than we said several weeks ago at Darlington. We're going to give him time to talk to everyone about the possibilities, and give him time to sort through everything with Kelley (Earnhardt Elledge). If the time's right, great."
Earnhardt will start from the front row Monday next to pole-sitter Ryan Newman when the rain-postponed Austism Speaks 400 finally gets underway at Dover. The race was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but rain washed the race out — the third Cup race out of the last four to be postponed by weather.
Gibbs said it's too early to speculate whether Junior would be "a good fit," but members of the No. 8 crew feel the chemistry at JGR would be preferable to Hendrick Motorsports. There has been ongoing chatter of meetings between the Earnhardts and Gibbs, as well as Washington Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder. With Earnhardt's penchant for the Redskins, that's a tempting enticement.
As far as bringing Snyder on as a partner at JGR, Gibbs doesn't see that happening any time soon.

"I think Dan's always trying to buy something from my dad, to buy the team," Gibbs said. "We're a family-owned deal, and we probably will be as long as we can. I hope that my kids will be running it someday."
If Earnhardt decided to join either Gibbs or Hendrick, that would mean displacing a current driver. Gibbs expressed interest in expanding to four teams in the future — but not in 2008. That doesn't mean that in either scenario a slot couldn't be created for one of the existing drivers on a satellite team.
Both J.D. and father Joe Gibbs have been adamant that Budweiser doesn't jell with the company's image. There is no question when it comes to 16-year sponsor Interstate Batteries. "They've stepped up whenever we've asked them to," Gibbs said. "They're a real good fit for us."
But is Toyota and good fit for Junior? The second tale Gibbs was attempting to dispel is whether ongoing discussions between JGR and Toyota were in play. Toyota is the official car of Fed Ex Field — home of the Washington Redskins.
"I don't really have much to comment on that," Gibbs said. "We had a meeting with GM last week-they met with all the teams. Every three years their deal comes up, and that 's what we've been working on.
"Anything beyond that would be speculating, so it's better for me not to say anything regarding Toyota. We've got a deal we're working on with GM for next year."
Well, there you have it, race fans.
