Re: Favorite racing term

How long ago was the World 600 changed to the Coca-Cola 600? Because I've never known it by any other name. Even when I used to watch NASCAR originally, back in the mid-80s, I swear it was the Coca-Cola 600. Just curious.

That sounds about right. At the very least, we should be getting ready for the World 600 presented by Coca Cola, but no,that's just not enough. And the Sony HD 500, well thats just an all together sad story.

Aww c'mon now.

That's actually one of my favorite lines. When ever I hear those words, my eyes snap straight to the tv.

Re: Favorite racing term

I think it was DW that come up with my favorite racin' term "Co-Opetition". I take it to mean competition by cooperation.

Re: Favorite racing term

One of my favorite terms actually comes from drag racing. When a driver loses a round of competition, they say he or she was "Put on the trailer". Something about that just makes me laugh! Except when it's my driver!

Least favorite would have to be "tighten those belts down". How about we just try calling the race with the facts. Announcers should be like the officials, or umpires. Just do the job, and don't call attention to yourself. We are not watching to hear their BS.

I don't mind them being clever, or witty, but for the most part, these Fox guys have just become a parody of themselves. Without bashing, I think it's time to bring some new blood in.

this last Busch race I found myself enjoying the race while "watching" it on Fox Sport website (actually the "live leaderboard") and listening to the call on MRN via the web. It was a pleasure to sit thru a race without having to listen to these numbskulls they have on TV who think they're announcers.

"on the trailer" is a short track (circle track) term - usually means "done for the night". but when "and don't come back" is appended it usually means "done for the season .. unless you come begging on your hands and knees with wads of cash in each pocket while kissing my boots and soliciting my favor to allow your return at an earlier date."

Interesting! I've mainly heard it on NHRA braodcasts, but I will take your word for it! Still a cool term!
