I wouldn't think any husband would want his wife to go through the extra physical and mental stress of inducing labor for a job - any job, even a race car driver. It's a race. He's not saving the world or solving world hunger. He's not a world leader. It's just a race and the world won't stop turning if he's not there. I hope we never know, actually, because it's a private issue between the two of them.
I am not saying he should put anyone at risk. I am saying that is the way a lot of people do now. The doctor will say if you haven't had it by xxx date then we will induce on xxx date. Actually it don't harm mother or baby or it wouldn't happen as much as it does.

Not meaning to zoom in on the medical aspect but wanting to be clear - having a great deal of experience in this matter, if there is no medical reason to induce, there is indeed added risk to mother and child. The drug usually used is very potent, and problems can arise. Induction is used for reasons like pre-eclampsia, diabetes, large birth weight, but is not routinely used just to make things more convenient. Induction will occur if the baby is significantly over due, which I think is what you're referring to. The benefit then may outway the risk. I cannot see taking the risk for a race and we'll never know if that's what happens or not. I don't want to belabor the point, ha ha. I guess my real point is that I think I would lose respect for Gordo, or anybody, who put convenience ahead of safety. It's all a moot point because it's up to them.

I don't think Jeff is doing that. That is why he has Mark lined up.

If this was the case, Gordon wouldn't have Martin as a sub. Both of them understand the risks, and I think Gordon wouldn't put her at that risk.

Re: Martin to sub for Jeff Gordon when baby arrives?

I still don't think that the fact that Gordo's wife is having a baby should be this big of an issue. So what if the baby should decide to enter this world on raceday throughout the race. He has a replacement driver lined up and it's all approved by all the heads in charge. Throughout the years, how many other drivers wives have been pregnant, with the possibility of the birth happening through race day/season?!? Did anybody make a big deal out of it?!? NO, they didn't!! I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion. BFD, Gordo's wife is pregnant!! So what, who cares?!?
