Dave Moody reported Wednesday afternoon on Sirius Speedway that speculation is Junior and Martin Truex Jr. will drive Nextel Cup cars under the JR Motorsports banner in 2008 with Hendrick Motorsports providing engines.
this is a report ..... but not a confirmed report

seems like its not a done deal yet to me ........ though he could really use Hendrick motors

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

SPEED will carry the news conference live at 11 a.m. ET.A report on Sirius Satellite Radio Wednesday indicated that Junior may announce that he and Martin Truex Jr. would drive next season for JR Motorsports.
However, sources at Dale Earnhardt Inc. told FOXSports.com on Wednesday that Truex is expected to remain at DEI. Truex's current sponsor, Bass Pro Shops, has not renewed its contract, which expires at the end of this season, the DEI sources said.
Other DEI sources said Truex has a performance clause in his contract that would enable him to leave at the end of the season.
Earnhardt Jr. has been involved in ongoing contract negotiations with DEI, the company founded by his late father. Junior has been with DEI since making his Busch Series debut in 1996. He won two championships in that series in 1998 and 1999.
Only one year remains on Budweiser's sponsorship of the No. 8 DEI car, but industry sources say Budweiser would go wherever Earnhardt goes. Crew chief Tony Eury Jr. would go with Earnhardt if he were to leave DEI.
"I'm interested in going with him," Eury Jr. told FOXSports.com on Wednesday. "He takes care of his people. Whether it's a pat on the back or ways to entertain them, he takes care of everyone around him. Much like the way people are treated at Hendrick Motorsports. Junior does the same thing. Owners who don't treat their people well suffer."
Eury Jr. is in the second year of a three-year contract, but he made it clear that if his driver left, he could go with him. Eury Jr. said although Junior is relatively new to the ownership ranks, "He (Dale Jr.) will lean on people to point him in the right direction."
Eury Jr. also said Junior's JR Motorsports shop has three times more working space than he's currently using.
"He'll have plenty of resources to get the job done," Eury Jr. said.

yea for Junior...

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

I would have said this was a bad move, but... now it isn't.

We all know when you have HMS engines under the hood, you are gonna be a contender. While Jr will drive for JR Motorsports, he is still working with the HMS organization, which quite frankly is a huge jump in my opinion. But, I see Jr a very strong contender with this move. Sometimes, you have to make moves that will help you contend, and obviously going to JR Motorsports, and affiliated with the HMS organization, Jr will contend. We will see come 2008.

yeah, as much as i hate JG i would agree this could make Jr one of the top 5 Cup contenders next year so long as they get the set-ups right

ive been thinking for awhile that Toyota needs to try and get HMS power as well ..... i think it would do wonders for them ...... DJ and Mikey are not bad drivers they are just too slow at the moment

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

I think it will be a good move. I'm a little surprised that he will be forming his own team instead of going with an established team. With the right people I think he can make a success of it though. The HMS equipment will definitely be a plus. If possible I really think Truex will go with Junior. Don't know about his contract obligations, etc. If he has a choice I think he will go.

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

Guess we'll know tomarrow. Nascar.com said he might, Yahoo Sports said he is and in the Fox interview he said he has no plans to take Jr Motorsports into cup. Boy don't you just love how all kinds of rumors get going?
I don't see it as a bad thing if he does go out on his own with Hendrick equipment. But dang that would be like pulling for Hendrick. But heck he might manage to win again.
I believe if he does this that the Eury's and Bud will go with him and I think Truex will too.
What would that leave her with, Paul Menard?

I was very surprised when I head this on Sirius this afternoon. Just blown away! I don't go to work until 2pm, so I'll be hanging by the TV, waiting to post my take on it when it happens! WOW

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

I plan on watching it too. Might give that commercial where the lady runs out yelling at her husband " he changed his number" a whole new meaning. I loved that one.

That was a great one! I love the guy who trims down the big bush in the shape of the 8! They should have left that one on!

Re: Jr. leaving DEI.........

I thought about it a few days week ago in the saga post.

my question will be what will happen to DEI, go to ford with yates, who will drive. will john menard buy DEI,

and the big one, who takes the #1 and #8 car numbers and owner points.

what about the top 35 rule, will jr. have rac`e race his way in each week.
will nascar make a change in the rule, maybe a fan vote in to the race each week. . or a most popular driver provisional.

this is going tobe quite interesting the next few weeks.
