| Re: the movie DALE Plus all th extra footage on the 2nd disk makes up for it.. I never got the dvd, so I didn't know about any extras, I thought the racing scenes were terrible.....there are tons of people tracks that they could have used to shot more real scene, I believe they even used the speed it up trick...........lame. plus there were big parts left out that would have defined Dales charictor much better. well I'll to the show, and maybe I'll pick up that 3 dvd, to see the extras. thanks!

| Re: the movie DALE Forgive me, but I think "3" s*cked ... big time. The guy who played Sr. was great, but the movie doesn't even scratch the surface of what Sr. accomplished. There are so many "Dale-isms" that could have been portrayed. Remember when he rolled his car, got into the ambulance, and said something like, "Hey! The tires are still on that thing! Let me outta here!" Now that's a racer! Or the time he rode with the Police and pulled people over? I think he gave them tickets to a race or something. He was a real prankster. I have several books on the man, and he was actually a very interesting character. He was so supportive of the other drivers as well. He would give his competitors parts, tires, and even an engine without being asked and without expecting anything in return. We all know he mentored Gordon along with many other drivers. Things like this weren't even touched upon. If Jr. says "Dale" is good, I'm sure it is. We'll see ...

| Re: the movie DALE Difference (major) between the two is that "3" was a movie (actors playing real folks in scripted scenes) whereas "Dale" is a documentary (real folks being themselves). And as Ms. Pitstop has so eloquently stated - there seemed to be quite a vacuum associated with "3". My next post - don't have the time at the moment - will be my personal favorite Dale story. The encounter between him and my oldest son. Cool stuff. Would have made a pretty neat scene in "Dale". Later tonight if can get to. Last edited by wingkey1 : 05-04-2007 at 04:10 PM. | Re: the movie DALE As promised (threatened?) - An Earnhardt story Our oldest, Michael, had taken a liking to racing at an early age. Two, perhaps two and one half. We watched races at the local tracks (Wall, New Egypt, East Windsor, Bridgeboro), went to Indycar when they raced at the Meadowlands and PA (The Andretti’s home track – just cannot recall name at moment), Cup and Busch at Dover. Naturally we did some TV time also. Bought first go kart (fun type) at 5 and started racing Quartermidgets at 6. Somewhere in all of this he took to three drivers. Michael Schumacher, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Dale Earnhardt. Michael Schumacher we have yet to meet. Perhaps because we were “circle racin’” Earnhardt emerged as a clear favorite. Michael could not get enough of him. He literally shook with excitement watching Dale race. Through friends of ours that are actively involved in the Make a Wish Foundation, we learn that Dale will be at a local Chevrolet dealership. The date is 27 May 1997. EARLY the morning of, I’m off to stake out a position in line. 3rd it turns out. Ironic when you consider it. Michael is 9 years old. To his surprise, Mom brings him to a Chevrolet dealer right after school. The line is now huge. High hundreds most certainly. To say his look was confusion (What are we doing here, and what is going on?), would be an understatement. Doesn’t take too long before it becomes clear to him. A facepainter comes by and offers to paint a “3” and crossed checkered flags on his face. Needless to day, it happens. At one point he says to Mom – My knees keep making me feel like I’m going to fall down. Excitement. Dales here. The doors to the showroom open. We end up getting an Earnhardt flag (now in a case), a cereal box, Michaels Quartermidget yearbook, and a TV Guide signed by Dale. The real story is when Michael gets to Dale. He’s brought a pin for Dale. 2 – 3 inch diameter. Picture on it is Michael in his Quartermidget. In his excitement, he forgets to give it to Dale, but Mom comes to the rescue. “Dale, Michael has something for you”. He looks at Michael and gets handed the pin. “It’s me in my race car”. “Thanks Mike” – and he pops it in his top pocket. Time to move on. About three steps towards the door we hear – “Hey Mike”. We turn – it’s Dale and he has taken the pin out of his pocket and is looking at it. “You didn’t sign mine Buddy, come back here”. Back goes Michael and Dale hands him the pin and the pen he’s been using to sign things for folks. The pin is signed and given back to the Intimidator. He studies the back of the pin - “To Dale, from Michael”. “OK Buddy, now we’re even. Thanks”. A little boy leaves on Cloud 9 with a forever memory. |

| Re: the movie DALE Check out DALE THE MOVIE: Racing Into Theatres 2007 Trailer is available for viewing. Described as a documentary narrated by Paul Newman. "Narrated by Paul Newman, this 100-minute documentary provides the most accurate presentation of Earnhardt's career and life. This moving tribute is told through archival race footage, never-before-seen family home videos and interviews with Earnhardt himself. His fiercest competitors and most avid fans share memories of him on the track. And his family and closest friends give insight to the man behind The Intimidator persona. The film "Dale" illustrates the depth of Earnhardt's influence in the racing world and beyond. Produced with the support and endorsement of the Earnhardt family and Richard Childress Racing, it's a must-see for every fan". Re: The Earnhardt story about my son and Intimidater, we've got a seven picture "sequence" of it framed and on wall in Michaels bedroom. Earnhardt signing the flag, examining the pin, popping it in his pocket, Michael signing it for him. Treasure. Have many, many, similar stories/memories from all of the time we spent at tracks over the years. Mike and I will be working on some more. Sunday, June 3, 2007. Section 216, Row 24, Seats 19 & 20. Just like every year. |
