I have a scanner and headset that I purchased at Loudon a few years ago. I no longer attend the races, and thought I would offer it to my friends at GTG. I'd hate to throw it away, but don't know what to do with it.

I paid about $130 for the set. I think the scanner is 100 channels, but I'm not sure, may be 50 ... more than enough.

I'd be very interested also.
does the head set keep out the track noise so that you can hear the scanner.

made that mistake when I bought a pair, you could only hear under caution

I have one good one now but would like a second one for the kids.

let me know.......if good I'll bump to 75.00

Yup. It's the voice of the driver, spotter, and the crew chief. You can program the driver of your choice, and can listen to all communications. I have several drivers programmed. Your kids would love it!

Here's a "quick and dirty" fix that has worked on many a headset (for the noise).

Many, perhaps even most, headsets in circulation today have vents in each earpiece. This has to do with acoustics for better quality sound and response (rebound of the sound cone not restricted by air captured behind it). Important for high fidelity when listening to music. Not of any real significance when listening to a scanner. Put small piece of folded tissue, napkin, or cotton over the vent and cover with small piece of duct tape. Fold enough to have perhaps 1/4 inch of tissue or whatever to help keep the sound out.

Believe me, I've got a couple sets modified in this fashion. Difference is significant. Can even hear when not in caution.

Interesting ... I've never had such issues with my scanner. I hear the driver, spotter, crew chief. That's it.

'tis not a scanner related "thing". It's a design "thing" with headsets.

Many of the newer headsets are advertised as "noise cancelling" (outside noise). They are usually not vented in each earpiece. Usually when headsets are purchased with the scanner (as a set), the vendor/supplier provides noise cancelling headsets because they are aware of the environment in which the headsets will be used. Many folks however figure they'll simply use their stereo headsets with their scanner. Nothing really technically wrong with this except for the fact they (the stereo headsets) have the vents that let the outside noise in. In the normal "listening to music" environment, outside noise is of little concern. Now at the track - whole different environment. Cover the vents - walla. Noise cancelled/reduced.

No noise for me. I purchased the scanner and the headphones separately, but at the same trailer. Same as Track Pass on NASCAR.com.
