Help with Jeff Gordon stat's

Can anyone please tell me how many of Jeff Gordon's wins were finished under caution flag status or stopped short due to rain?
I would be willing to bet $100 that it will be 25%- 33% of his total wins!
Jeff is NASCAR's "Golden" boy, or should I say, NASCAR's yellow boy?

oh come on! why!?! why!?! tell me one good reason that Gordon can't just win without the help of rain of cautions. Hey, i have a question, how may wins did Dale Sr. or Richard Petty get due to rain or caution. Come on, give the guy a break! Every driver has wins like that! Am i right Gordon fans!?!

Almost every driver has won at least once under caution or because of rain. And I don't think Gordon is Nascar's golden boy anymore. Maybe at one time, but not since Johnson came along. Heck I don't even think Gordon is Hendrick's golden boy anymore. And while I'm not a huge fan of his I can tolerate him now since he's no longer a cry baby. And like him or not, nobody can deny the guy can drive and he is good.

But you must admit, there are varying degrees of "good". And the very word "good" is subjective. They are definately not all equal, skill wise.

Right you are. If they were all 'good', there'd be a 43 way tie every week.

Re: Help with Jeff Gordon stat's

Regardless of the %, the question seems to ignore/forget want to pretend it doesn't matter - who was in the lead and whuppin' on all others at the time of the caution and/or raindrops?

Then there's - How many of the other participants in the events represented by the % were trying, but failing, to be in the lead upon the occurance of said yellow flag and/or raindrops?

Then there's - How many of Earnhardt Sr.s Daytona wins were finished under caution and prior to the green, white, checker rule? And does the answer diminsh him in the eyes of his peers? Or anyone for that matter?

The word good is VERY,VERY subjective. My boy Kevin Lapage is a cup driver .... where is he in the point standings. Mikey is a cup driver. No further comment.

Winning under a caution flag is just a part of racing. I owuld equate this to a baseball game that gets called before the 9th inning due to inclement weather. If you are going to examine wins then you really need to look at things such as a bad set of tires, poor pit stop that puts a winning vehicle in the back of the pack. Many, many reasons why some get wins that we may not view as valid.

I disagree with that statement. Every driver can drive but some aren't very good and you wonder how they got to the cup series or why they are still in it.

Re: Help with Jeff Gordon stat's

77 wins is 77 wins. Who flippin cares. My God, these drivers would laugh if they read some of this stuff!!!

I'm sure they all give Jeff a good ribbing over all the boos (and booze), every time they hear it. Doesn't anyone get the fact that these guys, with a few exceptions, are all at least nice to one another, if not great friends. The trust you need in each other to race that close is just amazing.

Plus they all do so many appearences together, the families travel together, kids play together. It's cool not to like a driver, but to rip someone with 77 wins is just silly.

One could say, "How many wins did Sr knock someone out of the way to get"?

How many rain shortened wins? (Like my driver Bobby @ the Southern 500)

How many times did the first place driver have a blown motor or flat tire? (Like Bobby's last win @ homestead)

There are many ways to discredit another driver, or even the sport, if you try hard enough. The record says 77, and that is good enough for me.

Re: Help with Jeff Gordon stat's

you still need to be leading when the race is called, and if your leading you must be doing something right.
