Re: Will Busch Become New KFC Series?

Here it is -

UPDATE: Louisville-based KFC Corp. was recently in talks with NASCAR about becoming the title sponsor of what is now the Busch Series, but spokeswoman Laurie Schalow said the company dropped out of the race yesterday. Schalow called NASCAR a "great fit" for the fast-food chain, but she said the title sponsorship didn't line up with the brand's spending priorities for the next couple of years.(Louisville Courier-Journal)(5-2-2007)

One would think that for a company that size the amount of funding required would be just chicken feed.

Re: Will Busch Become New KFC Series?

Ya know, NA$CAR just might have painted themselves in a corner. They have granted the "Official" title to so many companies that they just might miss out on some easy cash. Dish TV is out because Direct TV is the "Official" satellite carrier. No other oil company could do it because Citco(I think) is the "Official" fuel of NA$CAR. And so on. You get the picture. They looked at the quick cash without looking at the long-term picture.IMHO

chicken feed .. yeah, that's what it is.

problem is the $20M or so that NA$CAR wants means the colonel will have to sell an extra 50M chickens!!! But nobody told the hens that they'd have to lay the about 5 extra eggs a week (there goes the weekend), and when they found out they put up a big stink (chicken s***), and started talking like they were gonna wring the colonel's neck over violation of their rights. Naturally, the colonel didn't want any bad press, so he had the PR people put out a press release saying they'd changed their mind 'cause NA$CAR wasn't the direction they really wanted to go...they really wanted to see what was on the other side of the road........

Re: Will Busch Become New KFC Series?

You know... Why don't we just cut out the jazz here... let's move Nextel/Sprint to the cup lite series since so many of their customers are leavin them now.... and we could have Kotex sponsor the cup series..... couldn't just hear it now.....

"We have 43 cars in the Kotex cup this year... here comes Jeff Gordon in the #24 strawberry duesch Monte Carlo.... followed closely by Dale Jarrett in the Geriatrics ford.. er... Toyota"

Cheers folks

Good insight, Scotty. Things must get really confusing sometimes... For example, Coca-Cola is the "Official" soft drink of NASCAR, but Pepsi is the "official" soft drink of the Daytona Speedway (or is it vice-verso?). So, a treaty had to be agreed upon as to which bottle of sugar-fied syrup the winner holds in his hand in Victory Lane. Remember the rift a couple years ago when Gator Aid and the other power drink got into conflict? They put a carton of it on Kenseth's car in Victory Lane and he swept it onto the pavement because he had a contract with the other drink.

FYI, the "Official" fuel of NASCAR is Sunoco, (or I think it is, but I wouldn't bet on it, even though their pumps are in the pits. Sunoco might be just the "Official Fuel Pump" of NASCAR) I hope NASCAR has more sense than to affiliate itself with Citgo, which is owned by the American-hating country of Venezuela.

I wonder how much of KFC's decision came about because of its corporate owner, PepsiCo? Maybe Pepsi thinks that it is invested enough in NASCAR?

I don't think a lot of people would cotton to that idea, Dustin.
