Anything Nascar

Hi guys, and welcome to all the new members, especially all the Smoke fans. I wanted to start a new thread but I didn't know what I wanted to talk about. So, how about let's talk about anything regarding Nascar. What do you really like or dislike?

How about the lucky dog only being given one time during the race? Or whatever's on your mind right now. My favorite threads are the funny ones.

Re: Anything Nascar

How about, where did Tony Stewart get the name Smoke?
I've been watching him for years, and the nickname seems to be relatively new. Is it from his BBQ sauce? Either way, he is and always will be Tony Stewart to me. Smoke just seems like a wierd nickname.

I think it's because he always "smokes the field". I know that the barbecue sauce is new, he's had the nickname for a long time. Anyone else know for sure?
Oh, another thing I thought of, I am thrilled beyond belief that Robby Gordon doesn't have to qualify on time. He's IN!!!! Unless of course he slides back in points.

Re: Anything Nascar

Hi, weebecci, welcome. Glad Team Yates had the answer, I went on Ricky's website and I couldn't find anything there about the Tide Ride. So who is your favorite driver(s) now that Ricky's not racing this year?

Edit: Well I guess I should ask, was Ricky Rudd your favorite driver?

Re: Anything Nascar

How about thoughts about the "car of tommorow". I think that its a bad move. Maybe I am misunderstanding the concept, but isnt there a raceing league that everyone runs in the same car with the same engine? One annoucer said the other day that IROC races are great to watch, I disagree. Also why bring in Toyota in at all if noone will be running a toyta in a couple of years?

Hi Smoke+gibbs, my impression is that all of the rules will stay the same except the "cot" will be taller and wider for safety reasons.

And, with all this Gordon talk about the little shove, I forgot - the 48 car (on my list of least liked drivers)is no longer the points leader, Matt Kenseth is. Go Matt. He's not one of my fav's but I don't dislike him either.

Re: Anything Nascar

I have no problem with the Car of Tomorrow as long as they don't use that ricer wing! Its still up in the air if they use it or the standard rear spoiler like they are using now. The cars now are 90% cookie cutters already, so making them all have the same nose and tail will knock off all the crying about who's got the better downforce. I just wonder how much longer they can keep the word "stock" in Nascar. They should change it to the National Association for Spec Car Auto Racing

The best thing about the new car, is it is much larger inside and supposedly safer for the drivers. They can never be too safe.

Re: Anything Nascar

I gotta tell ya...I like 'Smoke' or Tony Stewart, or Da Wop...by any other name....I really was amused at his anger (unmanagement) episodes...to me, that demonstrated intense interest in his chosen career...it oozed excitement, dedication and an intense desire to win...which is what this racing thing is all about. When I was on the track (dirt tracks only in Alaska), all of the drivers and competitors were great friends in the pits...everyone helped with each others problems on the track (shared engines, wrenches, crew members when necessary), but God help you if you were in front and I was faster on the track...raw competition (without the dirty tricks). This is some of what I see in 'Smoke.' A lot of DE is relived in the #20 car...and I really think that a lot of fans, if being honest, can relate to the Smoke...he epitomizes the race game...and you just can't fake that special gleam in his eye when he is talking racing...he is a great driver...a renegade...a man unto his own...and one hell of a threat to those who choose to try to intimidate him on the track...I like it...like the old days in the racing game. Honk-on, Tony !!

Re: Anything Nascar

Every where I go they are talking about my personal nightmare Tony. Yes he is a great driver on a great team. Yes he seems to live and love his job, but he does need to get his anger under control. How would you feel about your mailman kicking your dog that is docile and tied up just because he is angry with dogs in general ???? At the speeds they drive it can cause death when you get so angry that you intentionally try to take someone out. I agree that it was more than likely a heat of the moment thing in Daytona, but that doesn't make it OK. Points deduction baby, points deduction. If nothing else it could/should make Joe Gibbs look at his driver a little more closely when it comes to losing places in the great chase.

So far this year, Tony has been his own worst enemy and cost himself plenty of points. The Kyle Busch incident was a classic example. If he keeps that up, Nascar wont need to fine him any points......he'll self destruct. If he had kept his nose clean, he could easily be leading in points at the moment.
