VA Tech Honored by Nascar

NASCAR entries to feature Virginia Tech logos
SCENEDAILY - 10:24AM ET THURSDAY APRIL 19, 2007 -
NASCAR officials say the sanctioning body has received permission from Virginia Tech to feature the school's logo on cars competing in Nextel Cup and Busch series events for the next three weeks to honor those who were killed and injured during this week's shooting rampage on the campus.

The logo will be displayed on a black background on each car to the right of the driver's window net. NASCAR entries will carry the logo at Phoenix International Raceway, Talladega Superspeedway and Richmond International Raceway.

Craftsman Truck Series entries will also display the logo for the April 28 race at Kansas Speedway.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their family members, their friends - and the entire Virginia Tech community," NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said. "We wanted to make a simple, but strong, gesture of remembrance. We are grateful the university gave us clearance to display their logo."

Seems appropriate, honoring those whose lives were cut short, and there are a LOT of VT alumni in NASCAR.

I'm not surprised. NASCAR always honors and remembers those affected by tragedies.

Now ... if we can just get the media to stop showing coverage of the gunman ...

I don't want to change the subject. I just had to throw that in there.

Peace out.
