Going to my first race in Richmond -- May 5

I'll be driving in from Hampton Roads. Any suggestions on parking, traffic, how early to get there, how much there is to do around the racetrack, etc.? Thanks!

Sorry, never been there, so I'm no help. But that is one track I would love to go to, especially for a night race. Richmond is my favorite track they run on, hands down. Have fun!!!

BTW, welcome to the forum!

try to take ride to track now, thier are houses near the track, you can get a spot in thier yard.

we went about 8 years ago, and park right one of the gates, 75.00 for the motor home all weekend.

I am from the area and attended Richmond races since 1957.Comming from where you say you are located then your best most enjoyable experience would be to read and use this link. NASCAR.COM - Richmond to offer another parking option for Cup race - Apr 18, 2007

Re: Going to my first race in Richmond -- May 5

I have a question too about Richmond: Are they very strict at the gate on cooler sizes? Their website says soft-sided coolers must be no larger than 6x6x12; my soft-sided cooler is about 7x9x12. I don't want to drag it all the way to the track only to have to dump it if it's too large. Thanks.

I live in Richmond and Parking is tough. There are houses near by so if possible park in a neighborhood. Free parking.

Re: Going to my first race in Richmond -- May 5

Get there EARLY in the MORNING. We get there no later than 8:00 AM for the sat night race. We usually park at the entrance to the track at GATE 4 off of Laburnum Ave. You can not park along Carolina Ave anymore because this parking has been stopped/banned along the industrial park.

With the addition of 10,000 seats LEAVING WILL BE DIFFICULT AS USUAL.

Parking at the local houses can cost you as much as $75.00 per parking place. Some are cheaper. Your best bet is to arrive EARLY IN THE MORNING and will cost you nothing.

Coolers are striclty inforced by size. No umbrellas

Good luck have a great time.

I stand corrected. People do charge if you park in a nearby driveway or street. Park off of Laburnum, Carolina Ave. is banned.
