How many different winners will there be in 2007?

So Johnson has already won 3, and Harvick, little Busch, and Kenseth are all bound to win again this year. So my question is: Will there only be a handfull of race winners this season? And is it possible Gordon could be the first to win the cup with zero race wins? I doubt that Gordon won't at least win a road race, but Montoya could take one of those away from Gordon, and last year Gordon only won at Sonoma and knocked Kenseth out of the way to win at Chicago, so it's possible he may not win anything this year. But to get back on track, I believe there will be a lot of repeat winners this year, and guys like Newman and Sadler may not see Victory Lane for a long long time.

I'm not a big stats keeper but I would guess that this year will no different than any year in the past. There will some domination by a few teams and some mediocore teams will get a win or two and then there are those that are just there to be fillers. Not really much different from the past.

OK, I'll play...

Last season there were 13 different winners, in 2005 there were fifteen and in 2004 there were thirteen. I'll say this season there will be... twelve.

Those will be split up between Harvick, J.Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, Kenseth, Hamlin, Junior, Kyle Busch, Edwards, Bowyer, McMurray, and Montoya.

With the exception of Flipper, I think you make a very valid point, Mate. Carl (Flipper, Opie, Mr. GQ, or whatever nickname he's going by) has shown he can win in 4th or 5th place cars, he's stealing all the oxygen out of Cup Lite and has the title virtually sewn up, with seven months to go. He's a streak driver (when he's hot, he's HOT) and he's doing well so far this season. Logic tells me that he'll have multiple wins this season.

But then, Logic has lied its ass off to me before, too...

Yes Bob, Flipper may be the exception. He certainly is on fire in Busch

Hmmm, I like what the rest of you said. I'm not sure how many winners we will have, but I do know we are in for some surprises...

I know this will seem like Monday morning quarterbacking, but I just saw this thread...

I'd have to say I pretty much agree with you except
  • I think J. Burton is on track to share in the glories (I won't act like I didn't know he won at Texas 'cause I was rootin' for him those last 4 laps so hard I'm still hoarse) and expect him to be a multiple winner.
  • I doubt Edwards will make the grade .. he may be burning up Busch, but he's pretty flat in Cup.
  • another name that I think will be on top at least once is Martin.
so I guess that makes my answer 13.

I'm with Bob, I think all of the above, except maybe (very big maybe) Montoya, but he seems to be well on his way.

Let me throw out a name to think about. Regan Smith...

Anything is possible but the lack of experience says that it is not probable.

The main two reasons I thought John Paul will win are Sears Point and Watkins Glen.

Reagan Smith. Hmmm...??? I believe that a driver in Cup must first think that he CAN win before he can win. Does Smith THINK that he can win?

But then, did Jamie McMurray think he could win when he won Charlotte? But he had a car definitely capable of winning and Reagan has one definitely capable of winning so...?
