Me thinks ya really hit on it here. I'd add one word - "familiar" right next to your "firm". There was a team of two, both working in their sweet spots. Regardless the number (two, three, etc.), it gets no better than that.

Re: Deal or no deal, Teresa

Would we be having this discussion if she was Jr's REAL Mom instead of his stepmom?

Very good point! Perhaps not ... but I don't know.

We probably would if everything was set the same with him and his real mom as it is with Teresa and him. But if it was his mom I don't think he and Kelly would have brought everything out into the open like they have, so I guess maybe we wouldn't.

Re: Deal or no deal, Teresa

I also agree with what Jimmie Spencer said, they should not have backed her into a corner in public. True she has made comments in public too, but not that many. And they may end up regretting backing her into that corner. I don't think Jr. will leave but I also don't think she'll give him 51% either. I think it may have started out about Jr's contract but now it's turning into a power struggle between Kelly and Teresa, Teresa has it and Kelly wants it.

Re: Deal or no deal, Teresa

I was reading my Nascar Illustrated Mar. issue I believe, sorry don't have it in front of me but their was a story in their about Dale Jr and his step mom about this. I don't remember how everything was worded but just the way Dale Jr. was commenting on the subject it seemed to me Teresa wants to concentrate on Dale Earnhardts Foundation not so much the racing aspect of DEI. I believe Dale Jr. will get what he wants and if he doesn't and he goes somewhere else good for him! He could start his own team if he wanted or go to Childress Racing and drive a black car with a 3! That would be cool! But I hope he gets what he wants and he should! He deserves it.

Agreed completely. I think there alot of Sr fans including myself who would like to see the 3 RIP. I don't care if it's Jr or not, no one deserves to drive the 3, and it needs to be retired. Richard Childress owns all rights to the 3, and he has said he plans on no one driving it, so that's a good thing.

If Jr stays with DEI and gets majority ownership, he will most likely start winning races, and possibly a championship. But I will always question whether he will win a championship until he wins one.

Yes, Childress said shortly after Sr.'s death that he would never put the 3 back on the track. Even if he did, it wouldn't be the same. Technically, the 29 is the former 3, and I can't stand Harvick.

I hope the red 8 can be as memorable as the black 3. And, of course, I don't want Jr.'s career to end the same way.

Well, I don't want to get into a contest, but I'll say the red 8 has a long way to go to be as memorable as the black 3. Do I think he can? Yes. Do I have my doubts? Yes.

That's one of the best statements you've made in a while.

What? You don't want to get into a contest?

No. I'm not saying the 8 will. In fact I don't think anybody will measure up to the 3. I just don't want Jr. in daddy's car. I want Jr. to be remembered for what he has accomplished in the red 8. Of course, the way he's going, he better get his act, and the act of those behind him, in line.

Re: Deal or no deal, Teresa

I know we all have our own logic but this number issue always baffles me. Many do not think that Jr should ever drive the number 3, but it's OK that he drives the #8 ??? What is the difference ?

What about the #7, #28 and others I'm sure. What about the 43 ?? Stats wise he holds the record. It's just a number ??????

I agree. Where do you draw the line? There have been many great drivers die at the track. Do we retire/enshrine all of their numbers?

Boy, are you grouchy tonight, LSC!

You know, I've been thinking about this number thing. The drivers of 7 and the 28 were not killed during a race, and they certainly weren't the icon Sr. was. As for the 43, Petty retired, same for Rusty in the 2.

The 8 was Jr.'s grandfather's number. It's nice to keep the history alive.

There's just something about that 3!
