NASCAR.COM - M. Waltrip charged with reckless driving in accident - Apr 10, 2007

SHERRILL'S FORD, N.C. -- Michael Waltrip has been charged with reckless driving and failing to report an accident after hitting a telephone pole and rolling his car about a mile from his home over the weekend.


Waltrip, who suffered scratches to his arms, hands and face and cuts on his finger, said he fell asleep at the wheel right before he wrecked his Toyota Land Cruiser early Saturday morning. He left the scene of the accident and walked the rest of the way home.

"He left the scene," Sharpe said. "We got the plate number, realized it was him and tried to locate him."


An attempt to locate him that morning was unsuccessful, but police reached him later Saturday. Waltrip was not arrested.

i would love to hear their reason for not arresting him for reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident

well in the early morning (middle of the night) you have an accident a mile from the house, no one is around to help you, would you walk to your house for help.

my sister turned around at a bank once and hit the pole holding up the drive thru and it fell on the car she walked to a phone booth to call her boy friend. when they got back to the car police where there.
she wasn't charged .at all

if no one saw him at the seen ,he will beat the charge.

he should have called the police when he got home to report the accident

i dont think he is disputing that he had the accident......he admitted he fell asleep at the wheel..........he should atleast get probation and a fine

In this day and age someone like him would have a cell phone. At that point you'd call the police ... unless it was something more than falling asleep at the wheel. Isn't that generally why people do not call the police ??? I'm not accusing him of anything but in most of the cases I am familiar with, those who do not call the police have something to hide.

All Can I say that Waltrip has hit new lows since leaving DEI, from almost missing the 500 then getting busted for cheating, to his mediocre team, this is a big add on to new lows, and the worse part NAPA followed him, if that is not desperation, I dont know what is..

On a bet I refrained from making any nasty remarks about the Wit brothers. As luck has it Brother Nit has given me some fodder to work with. Kick him more ????? YES !!! You get what you deserve, generally. He'll get it from me but undoubtedly escape the law.

With all this chat about the Winston (All Star), I decided to go to NASCAR.com this morning to check the schedule. I never got that far!

I heard about that today. I like Mikey even though he is with Toyota but probably all the stress it is getting to him-poor guy! See what Toyota did to him-team wise-not making races I mean-so no one jump on me! Whatever he is going thru I hope he is ok. This won't look good for him and the team.

I don't have anything against the Waltrips. I actually like them! But I knew the "bashers" would chime in!
