| Re: Oh, Mikey, Mikey, Mikey! When you put yourself in the eye of the public you immediately put yourself under the scrutiny of the public. Who he lived with and what he was exposed to 20 years ago is history. I am not accusing him of being impaired by alcohol because I was not there. I have only stated what it looks like in comparison to similar situations.
As far as getting to do something on a daily basis that most of us would like to do ..... I think you need to look at the larger picture. Sure it seems glamorous to drive around the track at excessive speeds and have thousands of fans cheering you. Now be realistic and look at the complete package. There is a lot more to it than just that. Sure I'd love to race a car but I'm not to crazy about living in a RV for 10 months out of the year and making appearances with thousands of people when I really don't feel like it. Sucking up to sponsors so you can continue to be funded. Stand in front of cameras and microphones when you'd rather be somewhere else. I know that the amount of manoey any of them makes far exceeds anything I ever made but again be realistic. None of those guys are riding around in a 5 year old car that needs tires and a new headlight. They don't live in that 1700 square foot ranch that has a bath and a half. I suspect they live the same as most of us ... barely within our means. I'm sure you've all heard that we spend what we earn ... and somethimes more.
Before you feel real sorry for him think about the trouble you'd be in for leaving the scene of an accident and just what the people across the street and across town think about what condition you were in when it happned. Nobody made him walk/run home and he (I would think) must have phones at home. We all are aware of the 911 phone number even if he didn't know the number for the police.
