Question Texas Motor Speedway: Laps tell fuel?

Just curious and hopig one of you guys/gals may know...with the new 17.9 gallon fuel cell, how many laps can these guys go (Cup drivers) until they have to pit for fuel at Texas?

Thanks

PR

PVT,it depends on how they jet the carb, what gear they use and how hard they push it or just draft.Avg.I would say 4 to 6 mpg.We will use 5 mpg here for the math.17.9 gal. x 5 mpg= 89.5 miles divided by the 1.5 mile track=59.6 laps max.If the tires hold up.I would say they would pit every 55 to 57 laps but who knows for sure. ps. welcome to you here.

Do you know if they completely fill up the tank though at each pitstop? I think I watched something where they weighed the gas can in order to determine how much gas went into the car.

It is the plan to fill it but it doesn't always happen. They also weigh the cans because there is more than enough in the two cans to fill the tank. By weighing the remainder they can then tell how much fuel was put in and there for tell how much was used and that determines the MPG's

they know the ball park for gas consumption, so if the can weighs heavy when it shouldn't they know they didn't get it full...conversely if it's light, then is there something (wind, temperature, etc.) causing the gas consumption to go up? either way it will cause more calculations to determine when to refuel next.
