Cool Nascar COT?

Do yall nascar fans like the new cars look with the spoilers and bodykits looking as if a street racer entering the track of the oval? They call this car the COT (Car of Tomorrow). This COT will be the car of next season so for all you that dislike the car are going to have to eat the burnt bread.

Re: Nascar COT?

Who does NASCAR think they are fooling?
The CoT has NO relation to the car(s) you drive.
The last carbureted car was sold in 1992. MOST cars now have electronic fuel injection and use overhead cams.

PLUS they all look the same! Strip off the decal headlights and the sponsor logos and you couldn't tell them apart. Ford / Chevy / Dodge / Toyota - the only difference is in the engine.

And Where did they come up with a cable driven fuel pump? Nearly EVERY car on the road has an electric pump - nearly failure proof, too.

When NASCAR actually stood for STOCK cars, there was a tremendous rivalry between Ford and Chevy fans and the Dodge boys usually surprised everyone. But you could relate to the models racing because they actually had to have the same profiles as production models. Remember the wait for the new Ford Thunderbirds because they hadn't sold enough to qualify for NASCAR?

Now they have evidently designed their own car which looks like NO model and therefore have become no different than Formula I or CHAMP cars in the distance from what 'normal people' drive. They are now the National Association of NASCAR racing.

For what?

Re: Nascar COT?

The first time I saw this COT, I thought Nascar bought a bunch of Riced out Honda Civics. They kind of really look alike with the big wings..

I don't mind it after seeing it live for it's debut in Bristol. You kind of get used to it. Now if shipping wasn't more then the diecast, I would have put my pre-order in by now I'll have to wait to Bristol in the fall to buy one...or some other track.

Re: Nascar COT?

Well, I just started watching NASCAR this year, so I haven't really had much exposure to the older cars. However, I know this much, the older cars looked a bit better. They looked more aerodynamic, their fronts were more streamlined and narrower. They just looked hot.

I do like the new COT though, albeit its bigger size. I think the wings are an interesting touch, but I am a bit irritated at the fact that the teams cannot paint their wings. Think of all the possibilities! ^^ However, those COTs have made for some awesome, awesome races. Martinsville and Phoenix were just awesome.

Hi Jerry and welcome to GTG's NASCAR Forum. Hope you stay with us and post often.

Now about your post. The "Stock car" stopped being a stock car in about 1950. At that point they started making changes to the cars so they no longer conformed to the original concept of stock cars. At some point it was decided that anything they did to the stock car had to be available in the showroom and had to have sold "X" many models of it. The exact number eludes me right now but my whole point is that it has been DECADES since we actually saw a stock car.

Make sure you visit our weekly predictions thread. You'll have the opportunity to win the big prize. We also have a "Live Chat" thread during the race. It's all very interesting.
