Re: Denver or Seattle? if so...

It seems to me there was talk of a track in the Seattle area a year or two ago. But the place they were talking about was logistically challenged. It was an island accessable only by one two-lane road, and a ferry.

Re: Denver or Seattle? if so...

Negative there buddy. The site was on the other side (east of) Bremerton. Kitsap Peninsula. You can drive around through Tacoma to get there or take a ferry from Seattle to Bremerton. It would have taken in the old Bremerton Raceway. A digger track. And part of the land around the Kitsap County Airport. A small aircraft kind of place. But the ISC wanted the state to come up with the biggest piece of the pie. We had the King himself here to talk to the state house and he was snubed. Called a drunk I believe it was. And Biffle was here too. Thats when the talk of the "Redneck" NASCAR, backwoods, hillbilly people is not what is wanted. So a few have now recanted their statements and think the best location would be in Lewis County. Reason being, Lewis County is pretty poor. Money wise that is. But they are still not convinced it is a money maker. Due to the fact that at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, we had the Motorcraft 500 for a few years. They brought in Bill Elliot, Sterling Marlin, thats when Jr was still a power house team owner. And David Marcis showed up also. The first couple years they did OK. Thats when I hooked up with Butch Gililand and crewed for him for a few years. Then they started having trouble filling the stands. It got to be a boring race. Hey, were talking west coast racers here who dont have the money to field the expensive cars it takes to race for that long and survive. So people started to stay away. Also the promoters of the track got greedy. They never put in any money to the upkeep of the track. Needless to say it deteriorated to a point that when the NCTS came here the folks calling the race on TV talked about how poor the track condition was. Plus the promoter was wanting a premium price for tickets. To see a show, in a now third class rated facility. That is why I dont think a track will happen. The state reps got a bad taste in their mouths with this and thought racing is a waste of time and money. Get the picture now?

By the way. A ferry here is a ship to transport cars....

Re: Denver or Seattle? if so...

Riddle me this, Batman... Why are they so hot to have a track in Denver when ISC just bought, and I believe is in the process of tearing up, a -perfecting good track do at Colorado Springs. They ran BGN races there, it was a modern facility and was only about 65 miles south of downtown Denver, right on I-25.

They wanted one in Chicago and settled for Joliet, which is about 40 miles south west of the loop. The traffic from Denver to Colorado Springs is a whole lot lighter than the traffic from Chicago to Joliet.

Maybe its just me but something seems "strange" about NASCAR's interest in Denver, at the cost of tearing up the Pikes peak track.

How about this, sports fans... Let the teams run their cars up the mountain for the PIkes Peak Hillclimb (*if they even still run it?). Make it a points event for the NASCAR class.

I'd pay to see that one.
