That was Smokey Unick,way back when. He had something like a half inch by 21 foot long fuel line that held 5 gallons.

Am glad it was understandable. Can at times be difficult to "write", as we all know, in ways that paint a clear picture.

Chassis' is facinating things. Just the element of flex alone can drive one crazy with happy or equally crazy with frustration. Often has been taken the approach to design and build the inflexible chassis. Isn't really possible. Rumor was that one element of the car Evenham built for Gordon that was so dominate (and costly) included the ability to control/change chassis flex. NASCAR "retired" the car after one race.

Once upon a way back time we actually had one chassis that had a radius rod as a diagonal crossmember. Loosen the lock nuts, twist the rod, and we could change the static cross weight distribution of the car a few pounds. What we were actually doing was flexing and locking (the flex) of the chassis. It was a quick and dirty weight jacker.

At this level, and the present state of the sport, any team wanting to play at the top pretty much has no choice but to build their own. This will continue to be be true for the foreseeable future. There is simply too much that can be done in the construction of a chassis that can result in a competitive advange to let this be done for a team by someone else. Even the lesser teams today have a chassis program at some level. And COT does not/will not change this.

not so fast. there's a few well known chassis builders still in business building Cup chassis: Hutcherson-Pagan, Ronnie Hopkins, and Laughlin. And, I believe Yates gets their chassis from Roush (they supply engines and get chassis in return.) Plus, others, like Boris and Robby, get their chassis from Roush or Hendrick or Childress or ......

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that he's been itching for a win for a long time, and it's about time he gets his due. Besides, you guys should see the look on his face after every race.
