Cup VS Busch I thought there was a thread on this forum about cup drivers who race in the Busch series. I know somewhere I have added to some threads about this subject but I'm interested in knowing how everyone feels about cup drivers in the Busch series. I was listening to a radio program about racing and they spoke about the subject. They refered to Busch racing as "Nextel Light". The more I hear about cup drivers running in the Busch series , the more I am against it. There was a statement that they didn't think (not sure) that there were very many teams in Busch that don't have some affiliation with the Nextel Cup series teams. That, for me, just re-enforces the thought that Busch is used as a testing space for the cup drivers. What do you think ?

Re: Cup VS Busch It's wrong for the Cup drivers to race in the Busch series. I think they're just taking money out of the Busch drivers' pockets. Especially this year. ALL the races so far have been won by Cup drivers. NASCAR needs to put a stop to it.

Did anyone see what Jamie McMurray said during the Busch race? He was in the Fox booth at the beginning of the race and he said he thought it just wasn't fair once you've left the series to come back and try for a championship. Not quite sure of exactly what he said but something like this. My thoughts exactly. |

Re: Cup VS Busch Hey guys it was'nt that many years ago when the Busch series did'nt even have enough cars to fill the field. If the Cup drivers didn't race people would not watch, when people don't watch sponsors don't ante up, when sponsors don't ante up, there are no cars to race. And besides the last time I looked a pretty good crop of drivers has been coming out of the Busch series, Hamlin, Boyer, Sorenson, Yeley, Stremme, Truex, and thats just this years crop. So to say that young drivers don't get a chance to shine and make a name for themselves I don't belive it. And as long as fans pay $$$$ to watch it, it is not going to change.

Re: Cup VS Busch Interesting subject...I can empathize with either side...one of the methods that might be considered is to allow the Cup guys to run with the Busch guys, but only a limited number of events each year....i.e.allow Harvick to run only three selected races, Martin three races a year etc. That way, fewer drivers per event would (concievably) run in each race. To not have the Cup guys in Busch would rob the Busch up-and-comers the opportunity to learn from them in a racing condition. I think that having a mix promotes the opportunity for the young fellers to see how it is done in the 'big time'...watching them on the telly is good, but being in direct competition is great. I do feel that the current domination of the Cup vice Busch is not fair to the guys trying to gain points and monies for the season...however, if Harvick owns a car, should he not be able to drive it once in a while?? Same thing should apply to DEI and the others... Can't quit giggling over Grondons pushy-shovy after the race yesterday...like to see him fined or chastised in some manner so's he can begin to believe he ain't a God.

Re: Cup VS Busch I've always been a fan of deducting points. Lets face it, Dupont will pay the $25,000.00 fine with great joy because their biggest advertisement is getting more airtime. I also can agree that the cup drivers do bring more fans to the Busch series even though I do not like it. I suppose I could agree (as if I matter) to severely limited schedules for them also. With reference to the statement about Harvick being able to run a full schedule because he has a Busch car ..... That is sort of putting the horse before the cart. If he, and all the others, were allowed only a limited schedule they would be less likely to have a car. It's like single "A" baseball. They are there to learn and there is no outrageous expectation of large crowds. The way others are talking about it makes it look like it is all about the money. While that may in fact be true .... it doesn't NEED to be that way.

Re: Cup VS Busch Even though I know the ratings and the attendance of a Busch rach would suffer due to the cup guys not racing, I dont like the idea of them racing Busch. This would proably offend some busch drivers but I have always thought of the busch series as a training ground for cup. As someone pointed out earlier about the big names comming from busch this year. but what about two years from now. If they keep filling cars with cup drivers who will be comming up then? how will they get the experience needed if they can't get into a Busch car because a cup driver wanted another $50,000?
