Re: Michael Waltrip-Toyota Racing

mikey is in a huge undertaking which obviously will have growing pains as all new business adventures do
but i feel he will do well as a business owner and maybe that is what he has to focus on right now, he might be biting of more than he can chew by trying to drive and run his business at the same time
win or lose i still follow him, and have since he drove 21 citgo
personality plus!

I think sponsor prostitute would be correct. A whore does it for free, a prostitute does it for money

This certainly isn't the place for this discussion, but both do it for $$$$

Re: Michael Waltrip-Toyota Racing

I hope I don't get struck by lightning or have a plague of locust visit me for making the following statements, but...

Mikey's performance has been so pitiful that I ALMOST find myself wishing he would make a race, EXCEPT I can't think of a single driver/team that I'd like to see Mikey replace.

In Mikey's defense, when he does make a race it won't be a "Start & Park" thing. Mikey will stay in the race as long as he can, and will drive to the best of his limited ability.

My last defense of Mikey; it could be MUCH worse. Think of all the inane and deplorable interviews we'd have to put up with if Kenny Wallace were in the spot Mikey is currently in.

WOW ... you're making me shiver all over with fear.
I threw both #1 and #2 in there to help ward off the ill affects of my blasphemous statements.

Kenny Wallace having even more access to a camera and a microphone... be afraid; be very, very afraid.

That may be true .....especially when we have a set of rules that rewards David Ragan for replacing Mark Martin at Roush by giving him a guaranteed start after a horrendous start last year....martinsville wasnt it?

Anyway I'm quite sure that an announcement will be made BEFORE the end of the season in regards to the top 35

in the meantime I hope that Michael does qualify for a few races

(1) Yep, it was Martinsville#2, last year. To use an overused cliche, Ragan managed to hit about everything but the pace car.

(2) I'd love to see them change it before season's end, but I don't see NASCAR doing something so logical. But I'm betting next season it'll be the top 25 or 30 in owner's points.

I think the ONLY thing that would cause NASCAR to change the Chosen 35 Rule this season would be if, somehow, Junior had a series of DNF's and had to qualify on speed, then screwed up and missed a race. NASCAR would then take immediate action because, as we all know, you can't have a race if the driver who sells the most tee-shirts isn't in it.

Re: Michael Waltrip-Toyota Racing

With qualifying over at Martinsville, and seeing Mikey with another DNQ next to his name, I did some slipshod research very quickly 'cause the brew was startin' ta get warm... Here's the results:
  • Kevin Lepage (Front Row Motorsports) leads the pack with 6 DNQ's
  • Mikey is a close 2nd with 5 DNQ's (some say it should be 6, but 5 is the official number)
  • At 4 DNQ's each we have a tie between Allmendinger, Mayfield, Kenny (the Mouth) Wallace and Mr Talkative himself, Ward Burton. An interesting point:Mayfield and Allmendinger both are working a streak of 2 in a row successful qualifying attempts!!!
  • Dragging up the rear at 3 DNQ's each are Crash & Burn Bliss, His Daddy's Money Menard and the Wonder Boy Super Brian Vickers!!! Actually Bliss blew a chance to move up in the rankings by qualifying at Martinsville this week.
In other news, Team Toyota recorded the following qualifying results at Martinsville:
13 - Mayfield
22 - Blaney
38 - Jarrett (did not use provisional)
40 - Allmendinger
43 - Reutimann
44 - Mikey (DNQ)
48 - Vickers (DNQ)
Team Toyota claims to have turned the corner...

Re: Michael Waltrip-Toyota Racing

Just watching Speed channel and they suggested that MWR may employ Bill Elliott after Jarrett uses all 6 of his provisionals. Is that BULL or what ???

This is probably one of the least true statements that have been thrown around ever since Toyota announced their involvement into Nascar. If you are looking for a manufacture exclusive to the US you wont find one. Toyota is as much a American make as Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. If you think this is your grand daddy's Nascar then you are greatly mistaken. Just like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge are no longer your grand daddy's. Things changed longer before the start of the 2007 season. Time to live and learn.

He may be a "sponsor whore", but I bet there are sponsor's on 42 other cars out there that wish their drivers were too.

Is that a good thing? The average race fan tunes in to watch a race, not be inundated with corporate logos, slogans, and other bs. I find myself watching less and less of these races mainly because 50% of the actual broadcast is commercials. Then you have a Mikey that wont shut up about his sponsers when being interviewed. Enough is enough! Thankfully, 42 other drivers are NOT like him.

I agree although I still watch pretty much most of the race. I try to kill the TV as soon as they interview the winner. When they talk to the others it is nothing but another commercial. Potty time for me when they want to brag about whatever it is that is plastered on the car.
