| Re: The Car Of Tomorrow Poll I'm kind of ambivolent about the looks of the thing. It's a race car and it puts NASCAR across the threshold from being a stock car racing organization to just a racing sanctioning body. If you're "old school," like myself, there is no more major league stock car racing. NASCAR will use the new race car. ARCA will use the old race car, late models are just versions of the ARCA car. Some tracks run late models that look more like Featherlite Modifieds. About the only actual stock car racing I can think of, off the top of my head, is the "Bomber, and other beginning, low-buck classes they run at the local tracks. The fact is that it is a new dawn of racing. The new race car is here to stay, whether we like it or not. Stock car racing has turned into what it's turned into, whether we like it or not. The onus is on us to either accept it or reject it. The bottom line, as I see it, is that the only difference between NASCAR and all other forms of professional closed track racing is the size, weight and shape of the cars, and the degree of technology associated with the different types. Other than that we stock car fans who could proudly claim that "our racing was different" from those other "hoity-toity" forms, can no longer honestly make that claim. Yes, I know. They haven't been "stock cars" since the mid-60's. But the new race car has finally hammered that last nail in the coffin that held a small glimmer of deluted belief. Please excuse me while I shed a tear for the stock car racing we've lost.

| Re: The Car Of Tomorrow Poll The cot is extremely ugly. I still believe nascar only made this change to make it easier for toyota to get in the game by putting everyone on a more level playing field. Nascar really should get back to their roots. Buy and modify real cars, or at least have them resemble what is actually sold on the dealer lots. Last edited by LSC9901 : 03-30-2007 at 08:59 AM. Reason: Negative remarks |

We lost "stock car" racing when they went from a solid frame to uni-body construction. If you really want to see actual stock car racing today, go to you local track and watch the lowest, or lowest couple of classes. (the beginners) Every other class just runs a car specifically designed for track racing. As far as NASCAR and roots (read: tradition), ask Junie Donlevey, Bud Moore, the city of North Wilksboro, the fans who used to attend Rockingham and College Station, and the people who still believe the only place to run a race on Labour Day is Darlington, about NASCAR and tradition. It is non-existent. They still have 36 point races, two qualifying races, one race for pole winners and one race designed to promote toy cars, each year. Let's just sit back and try to enjoy that because, truthfully, that's about all we have. |

| Re: The Car Of Tomorrow Poll actually only the people are the same .. racing's changed 'cause the racing folk (drivers and teams) are having to learn how to make this new widget perform .. they've already found out it won't turn as well as the "old" cars. someday, hopefully soon, we'll find out if they will "fly" at the restrictor plate tracks. so the illusion of the past 2 races that everything is the same is just that: illusion!!

| Re: The Car Of Tomorrow Poll The only thing I dislike about the cars is that it was suppose to create a more even playing field. I think we can all say after witnessing these past two races that nothing has changed. All the racing will be the same. The teams with the most resources and money will still dominate. I should of snapped out of my denial sooner. I don't know why but I really hoped that the boxier car would put the driver back into play. I though it would bring back some of the older drivers like Labonte, Rudd, and Jarrett. I don't think these drivers have lost the ability to drive I just think they haven't adapted to the newer cars as well as the younger crowd. I really hoped this new car would bring things back to the hay days. Nope, just the same as before the car is still driving the driver, and not the driver driving the car. |
