Owner Points Question

I need someone to explain something to me. The following was lifted from Jayski tonight, showing the Chosen 35 break in Owner Points:

30) #96-Raines/HOF Racing 404, +73
31) #14-Marlin/Ginn Racing 400, +69
32) #45-Petty/Petty Enterprises 382, +51
33) #88-Rudd/RYR 374, +43
34) #9-Kahne/Evernham 365, +34
35) #70-Sauter/Haas CNC Racing 365, 34 pts ahead of 36th
these teams and drivers must qualify by speed:
36) #4-Burton/Morgan-McClure Motorsports 331, 34 pts behind 35th
37) #22-Blaney/Bill Davis Racing 325, -40
3 #83-Vickers/Team Red Bull 322, -43
39) #44-Jarrett/Michael Waltrip Racing 320 [has 2 champ provisionals left to use], -45
40) #21-Schrader-Wood/ Wood Brothers 320, -45
41) #49-Bliss/BAM Racing 287, -78
42) #15-Menard/DEI 281, -84
43) #10-Riggs/Evernham 265, -100

How did the #4 Morgan McClure team get 331 points? I show them making only two races, getting a total of 143 points. Add to this the 34 points NA$CAR gives a team for just entering and that gives them a maximum of 245 points.

Can someone please explain this to me? I'm totally confused.

Re: Owner Points Question

Bob, here's what Jayski has on the #4 Team Page. Don't know if this explains it or not.

Quote:
NOTE on Owners Points: from what I am told the #109 team of James Finch/Phoenix Racing and the #4 team of Larry McClure/Morgan McClure Motorsports have 'switched' car numbers with Finch now listed as the #4 owner, combing the #109's Daytona points [160] with the #4 points at Las Vegas [34] for a total of 194 and moving up to 38th on the Owners Points list. Been told NASCAR has approved this move. Why would the #4 team do this? Race attempts do not matter if a team is in the top 35 of the owners points, so if the #4 can get in the next two races and get in the top-35 they will be guaranteed a starting spot if the team can stay in the top 35.
My 'understanding' of the rules, is that since the #4 is now listed with only 2 race attempts, the team would not get in the race in the case qualifying is cancelled [rain etc] as there are many teams already with three who would get in first. That is how the rule is written, but NASCAR could change that..so who knows.(3-14-2007)

Re: Owner Points Question

Yet another manipulation of what one would believe to be hard core rules. Amazing .... simply amazing !!!

Does this mean that my boy Kevin Lepage still has a way into the top 35 ??? Where there is a will, there obviously can be a way !! Right or wrong.

Pretty scarey when Bob is confused as to how, when, where or why.

I don't think this is any worse than "buying" a ride. But boy Bob. I am SOOO disapointed. This is as bad as when "Shane" left.

Thanks, Lefty. I completely missed this one. Now I wished that I hadn't asked.

I have a lot of respect for Wahrd. I have liked Morgan-McClure since the days when they had Rick Wilson tearing up their Kodak Olds. But this manipulation of the rules puts them in the same category with Mikey, Roush and The Felon. I know that the name of the game is starting races and money but damn! This is just wrong, wrong, wrong, in so many different ways. Sad.

I agree Bob. Why don't we call this "Legal Cheating". I don't think we could call it "Legal Knausing" because I don't think even Chad would go this low.
