Re: Goody's Cool Orange 500 "Live Chat" * Martinsville, VA

If it had been reversed, Johnson would have wrecked Gordon for the win.

no, it's not turning passion off and on. It's changing the way you race your teammates, but just a little. Look what Jeff did, he was wearin out Johnson's bumper, but didn't wreck him, because he didn't want to wreck his teammate. It showed he still had the passion to win, yet he wanted to be extra careful because it was his teammate.

"It was a great race and I basically had to wreck him to win it and I'm not going to wreck my teammate for a win," Gordon said. "I tried to move him several times but he's tough here and he ran his line, did what he needed to do.

Proves my point. He tried to move him for the win, but he dosen't wreck his own teammates for wins. That's called being a team player.

Mike ... that was only part of the interview. You left out the part where he complained that JJ was blocking above and beyond what he should have ... or did you not hear that ???

The team mate thing is bunk in my book. Do you think the players on the Boston Red Sox allowed Ted Williams to have a high batting average or did he just do it? Do football players allow another teammate to get a sack just because they are a teammate ?

Either you race to win or you race for first loser. The line you are drawing occurs when it is fitting for you. Rules and standards are for everyone at all times.

My point is you cannot be passionate about winning and then say "Oh ... I can't bump him ... he's my teammate." There's no passion to win there. All or none.

Baseball and racing can not be compared. They are 2 different sports.

I'm not saying you can't bump your teammate out of the way to win. I'm saying you can't wreck him to win.

Did anyone hear the post race when they said that the COT had the same hight on the front and rear so in those cars the driver in 2nd cant get the nose of the car under the car in 1st so it is much more difficult to spin them or take the air off the rear. I used 1st and 2nd as an example but can apply anywhere in the field.

Man, nothing gets by you!

As you know, not a Johnson fan, but he blocked his way for the win. Here again, Gordon is a big whining baby!

So are you saying Jeffie lost some of his passion to win?

I also hope this ends the comparing Jeffie to Earnhardt Sr. as any one that watched Sr. knows he dumped his teammate more than once sometimes just for position and not always for the win. And this was regardless of team orders, he didn't care.

He wasn't whining. He was just admitting that he should have shoved Johnson out of the way the way he was blocking him.

But that was your point last week when Jeff Burton didn't bump Kile out of the way for the win you said he didn't have the passion to win.

But if you watch, Jeff did bump Johnson, and Johnson slid up the track. But Johnson just came down on Gordon in the corner, while Gordon was under him. So Jeff moved him, Johnson just slowed his momentum.

So if jeffie still had his passion to win he would have dumped him. after all you said if they have the passion then "win at all cost".
