Smoke842 brought up Robby Gordon's Golden Corral 500 performance in the "Praises for Petty" thread... I thought the topic could use it's own thread...

I think every NASCAR fan out there should be a Robby Gordon fan. Robby's got balls. He left the security of being a driver in large "big money" teams, to start his own team from scratch. He's had to make it into every race on [qualifying] time for the past 14 month's, but now he's 19th in points and will be able to relax in that all-important top-36 owner-points group.

Robby is also the only Owner/Driver currently racing in NASCAR. I think it's great. Of course, I voted for the 2 car MAX in the "Maximum # of cars per owner" poll.

Thanks for the thread, Jamminj, I have always been a Gordon (not Jeff) fan. He's awesome to watch on road courses. He would have easily been top 5 at Atlanta if he didn't have that pesky tire issue late. Or maybe he even would have won Glad he switch to DEI engines. Every qualifying, I hold my breath that he makes the show, only one more. Go Robby!

Isn't Kyle Petty an owner too? Anyway, Robbie endured a very tough year last year and survived to come back this year. That in itself is quite impressive considered how many motors they blew, cars they wrecked, and races he didnt qualify for. He was looking specatcular at Atlanta then bad luck killed his run. He got up to 3rd place and was the fastest car on the track towards the end. Too bad he got that flat, then was nailed with a speeding penalty on pit road. That team dearly needs a strong finish. He literally drove the wheels off that car.

I have always liked Robby, and even DW said he is a lot of fun to be around as a person. A real likeable guy. He is obviously getting heavily funded from somewhere. His dad is quite wealthy and Harrahs sure has the money to spend.

Sorry fellas but I think Robby is a danger on the track. He is just as hot headed as some of the other danger drivers out there. The reason he is a single car team now is because he couldn't produce for the big teams. I've listened to him after wrecks and it is never his fault. Granted he isn't the only one like that but he certainly has left a larger imprint in my mind than some of the others.

While I'm willing to give Robby a small amount of credit as a single car owner/driver team, I have to agree with LSC about the rest of it. In the few interviews I've seen with him, he has come across as whiny and petulant. A bit too much like the other Gordon if you ask me.
