I am not comparing "difficulty" or "danger" at all. I was simply trying to point out another sport that MAY be technologically compared to today's NASCAR.

I still believe there is more "strategy" during a Cup race than a 1/4-mile drag race. If you put a drag "rocket ship" under my butt, I could probably master it before I could master a 500-mile Cup race.

I respect your correction. Doesn't bother me at all. I've never driven any type of race car, except a simulator, and backing a "real" Modified into the garage, so what do I know?
PPS you are correct and I have driven and built both. A drag car is easer to drive but it does have its own set of challenges the strait vs. round tracks is almost like apples and oranges. the only thing that is the same is they both have rubber on the ground.

Agreed. I'm too chicken to drive either one.

I'd love to go to one of those tracks where you can actually drive a stock car, but I'd either get frustrated because I couldn't go faster once I got used to the car, or I I'd be like an old lady, and bring up the rear of the field.

A few years ago when I drove a Cup simulator, I had a blast. I just put my foot to the floor, and went for it. I kept inside, and flew by cars on the straight-aways, but I kept wrecking coming out of the turns. The the guy who ran the simulator said, "Use your brakes!" I said, "Brakes? No way! This is a race car!" I have to admit that I wrecked another car intentionally ... I won't say who.

When I got out of the car, which was the 28 Texaco driven by Irvan at the time (that'll tell you how long ago it was), I said "This thing is tight going in, and loose coming off!" The guy cracked up. I don't think he expected that type of comment from a female. When he finally stopped laughing, he said that I actually did pretty good. Better than most.

What I'd REALLY like to do is be a passenger with a REAL driver like on Walley's World. Now that would be fun!

Re: I have a question....

Penny you can do a ride along at Loudon various timres of the year. At the very least during race weekend. My first ride in a car was a ride along at Charlotte. I had a grin from ear to ear as we rounded turn 1. They told me we were doing 170 +/- on the straights. You gotta try the ride along at least.

Cool Re: I have a question....

I know that we are off the subject of the question, but I have to add my 2 cents on the "ride along" deal. Where I used to work, my general manager took me along to Pocono, he said that I could ''ride'', not drive. I told him the reason he said I couldn't drive was because he was afraid that I would show him up!! I still didn't get to drive!!!! But I did get to go for 16 hot laps with the instructor. That was too cool, only down side to it, is now I want to experience a ''ride'' around each track. Well, at least the different types of tracks, not each cookie cutter track. What a great thrill it must be to feel the G's at Bristol and Dover. The great speed at 'Dega, ...................just the thought sends chills through me.

Loudon? Seriously? I knew they did that "Richard Petty" thing, but I didn't realize they did a ride along. I'll have to check that out!

I'd prefer a super-speedway, but Loudon will do.

Thanks, LSC!

Ya know Yatesy, that's EXACTLY what I look like when I'm behind the wheel. It's a good thing I don't carry a gun when I drive.
