Re: Nextel Cup Drivers in Busch Part-Time

Should the cup boys run in the busch series... no. They moved on and they should stay out. Let the Busch regulars race and grow up. That's why they are in the Busch series, so they can get seat time and learn. They learn nothing against with cup boys in there kickin their a$$es with a cup team wrapped in a Busch series skin. Now if all cup drivers drove in underfunded fledgling teams... then I would say the Busch regulars are learning things from them. Oh and you never hear the reaction of the drivers that have to go home because a cup regular took his spot. You only hear the drivers that are in the top 15 that have no problem with it.

Again for me it just seems unfair that the minor leaguers are sent home because there is no room for them to run.
yea well sending people home because of cup drivers is wrong i agree. but still

I agree that Cup drivers shouldn't run in Busch. But if the Cup drivers don't run in the Busch, then we are looking at about 20-23 drivers on the entry list for the race. The fans fron the 70's may like that, as it will kinda bring them back to that time, but the fans that have been watchin since the 90's like myself like big fields, so a 20-23 car race will be boring to me.

Perhaps... but look at it this way... from the perspective of say a driver fan. How does the driver you follow build a following and a personality when constantly battling the cup boys. Their career may be snuffed out before it even begins because they didn't stack up to the cup boys. It will all be fine and well for those that can just jump in and pull it off... but those that need extra time to develop and grow are screwed. It also gives no individual identity to the Busch series.

This is kind of a Catch-22 situation. The lower financed teams have given up because the cup drivers have invaded. Therefore you only get 20-25 teams trying. If it was exclusively for Busch drivers I bet the numbers would increase.

I would even have to go so far as to say I would be more apt to watch a Busch race if the Cup driver's were not in it.

I did watch Jr. anb Truex come up through the ranks, for obvious reasons. I just don't watch it now because I don't really know anyone unless a Cup driver is in it.

I also don't think Busch gets the TV coverage it used to. I seem to find it harder to find what channel the Busch races are on Saturday.

Re: Nextel Cup Drivers in Busch Part-Time

I've voiced my feelings on buschwacking a few times, and I see that most of what I feel has been stated already. The bottom line is that Busch regulars NEED, the track time on Saturday for two huge reasons. They need experience to get to where they dream of being, and because they want to have some fun and be able to compete. What I see buschwacking as is a bunch of 5th grade bullies ruining recess for 2nd or 3rd graders.

I have to disagree with this. The Busch series gets waaayy more coverage than it used to, partially because of (big suprise coming) Buschwackers. It wasn't to long ago, when TNN still had a share of NASCAR brodcasting, that if the series wan't on TNN, it probably wasn't on at all. ESPN helped that shortly after. That's when buschwackin became standard and the big networks began airing the Busch races. Fox and NBC, and now ESPN is in the picture once again.

Interesting. I agree that Busch gets more coverage than it used to, but I guess the coverage has jumped channels up here in New England.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, you have answered my original question regarding Cup drivers in the Busch series. Glad to see we can all agree on something!

Well PPS I hate to bust your bubble but every one don't agree...I myself don't have a problem with the "bushwhackers" if they git in on speed then let the boys race.
Now what I wish they would do is if they run cup then I don't think they should git any points or money.

Fascinating idea. Let them use the Busch races for practice all they want, but don't keep records for them... would you give first-place points to the top Busch Series finish of the race, though? Have the Nextel guys run but not count at all in the official results?

Re: Nextel Cup Drivers in Busch Part-Time

I think with the money in the sport today, even if there no cup boys racing you'd have a full field. no sponsors would simply put thier name on a reg busch team.

I an curious to see what happens this year with the reg car in busch and the nascarmobil in the cup race, will there being any info tranlated between the two to make it worth wild.
