Angry Nascar In Washington State

Race fans, this is a must read. It will really make you mad. As you know, there are talks underway to get a Nascar Speedway built in Washington State. Well, this is what one state legislator thinks about race fans. "Not the kind of person you would want living next door to you".

Get the full article and what I emailed him about it here:
Quote:
Larry, I just have to tell you something buddy...... I'm a 61 year old Vietnam era Vet and have raced NASCAR and off-road races as well as being a fan most of my life.

Your derogatory comments about NASCAR fans "having junk cars in the front yard" and "skirting around the law" makes me think that you are way too opinionated and biased for the current job you have courtesy of the public. You need to get a clue. NASCAR racing is a top dollar and very popular sport. A major NASCAR race in Washington would probably draw a crowd larger than any other sports event in the state, even Major League Baseball.

I have a beautiful home in Washington on 5 acres. Washington is a great place to live. There are no "junk cars" around anywhere that I can see. I don't "skirt around the law". I pay my taxes, obey the laws, attend church and yes Larry, I EVEN VOTE!

Thankfully I'm in the 18th district and have a much better representative than some folks have up north. There are a lot of NASCAR fans in Washington who would love to see a track come here. I would vote for a bond issue in a heartbeat.
Racing would bring a lot of money into our state without a lot of problems. Your biased comments against NASCAR and NASCAR fan's has irritated me a lot. Thank god for the 1st Amendment for free speech.

Just so you know Larry, this email will be published on my website as well as any reply you see fit to return to me. I have also contacted my representative concerning this issue and let him know my feelings.

Your comments may have awakened a sleeping giant down here in the Southern Washington area.

Re: Nascar In Washington State

here is part of the article
Quote:
The most pointed, derogatory comment made by a Washington legislator was attributed to State House representative Larry Seaquist, a Democrat who made it clear that he does not want NASCAR and its fans in his beloved home state.

"These people are not the kind of people you would want living next to you," he told a Fox television news station there. "They'd be the ones with the junky cars in their front yard and would try to slip around the law."

Frank Chopp, another Democrat who is the powerful State House Speaker, was asked about Petty's visit and added: "You mean the guy who got picked up for DUI? He's not a member of the House last time I checked."

Greg Biffle however, did defend NASCAR fans and Petty

Quote:
Biffle, a native of Vancouver, Wash., said he heard those comments and initially could do little more than shake his head in disbelief at the level of ignorance that he believes they portray.

"They're just uneducated about NASCAR," Biffle said. "They're not uneducated folks, but a lot of them are uneducated about NASCAR."

He said he particularly found Chopp's inaccurate reference to Petty offensive.

"The guy [meaning Petty] won't even let his cars run in the Budweiser Shootout," Biffle said. "The guy won't even let [alcohol-related sponsors] put a decal on his car. So can you believe that? I was thoroughly embarrassed. If that gives you any indication, well, you know."

if i lived in Washington State these people would be out of office

Re: Nascar In Washington State

I must confess I have 2 junky cars but they are in the back yard.
I've never been able to slip around the law like the politicain do !

I would have to see the plans for the type of track before I supported it.

I am all for a new track as long has it's not another 1 1/2 - 2 mile cookie cooker track, how about a new short track!

Biffel is right on with the vacation deal, we've talked about going there or Az. on vacation, right now Az. is getting the knod for the pheonix race.

At least we can all sleep at night knowing that all of our politicians aren't slipping around any laws.

They sound more like Rednecks than what they think about nascar fans. I've got some words for them.... but, I'll refrain from such thoughts and language.

Re: Nascar In Washington State

I couldnt send a message to this uneducated goon. For I would get shut down by the mans censors. It is a shame that this guy has that opinion about those who live in the Northwest. But I hate to say it, he may be right in the fact that there is not a large enough following up here to support a major race track. Its a shame but look at the decline of racing up here. We used to have a great series up here. But look at whats happened in the name of progress. Spanaway Speedway gone, Rose City Speedway gone, Tri Cities gone, Yakima Speedway going, South Sound is run by the idiots who run the Monroe track, There will never be the maintenance or rebuild to host a good show there. Ephrata is so run down its not worth the tow. Nobody wants to sit in the stands there and get splinters in their ass's. So that leaves one track in Eastern Washington and that one will never get any larger. As in bigger and better facilities. Garret Evans has done a good job there but you cant get blood from a turnip. The rumor a couple years ago was someone wanted to build a copy of Bristol up north of Arlington. It got shot down due to politics. I think that would be a better unit to build. Alot more races could be held there throughout the year. I think this has been stalled due to no money getting stuffed in the right politicians pocket.
