Yes, there were people who transferred their loyalty to the son when the father died, but you can't blame that on him. Personally, I was not a big NASCAR fan until Dale, Sr. died. I became a Dale, Jr. fan because of the the classy way he handled himself after his father died and he has not disappointed me since. I personally think that being a driver for DEI is holding him back. If he would leave and go to Childress or somewhere else he would do much better. It only makes me respect him more that he is trying to stick with the company that his father started rather than leave and have more success. So many of the negative comments that he gets are because people are jealous because he may get more publicity than their driver. He was born an Earnhardt and can't change that. I am sure that he would gladly give all of his popularity if he could have his dad back. He has had to handle the loss of his father in a very public way and try to continue on in his career. Shame on the people who choose to be tacky cause he might be more popular than their driver. |
Well the sad part is it's true. Jr got his popularity off of Sr's death, and it wasn't in Jr's control at all. Sr would have wanted Jr to earn his fans like he, Gordon, Stewart ,etc have all earned.
I'm really not bothered if Jr is popular than my driver. I look at his expectations, and the stats he has put up. If the stats hasn't met any of the expectations, yet he still receives hype and a ton of expectations, then that means he is over-rated and over-hyped.
Maybe he should go to a company like Childress, so we can see him in top equipment, and see how he does? As long as he stays with DEI, he dosen't have the best opportunity to win a championship.
