You blame Jeff's team, yet blame Jr.'s ability to drive the car to its full abilities. I'm sensing a bit of hypocrisy here. Made me nauseous! I'm speechless!
Johnson has the drive to win and win championships. He did it in 2006. Johnson is just as a good comparison as any other. Now guys like Kyle Busch and Casey Mears, yes those are crazy comparisons. But saying Johnson isn't in the same league as Gordon, Stewart, and Jr is not right when Johnson is a Nextel Cup champion, along with Gordon and Stewart, yet Jr isn't.

I'm not saying Jr dosen't have the ability to drive, because he does. What I'm saying is I question his drive to WIN. At Talladega he said "They were gonna get a run, and I was gonna let them by and finish 3rd." He proved to me he has no passion for winning, and the first thing that would have crossed my mind is to block them to the best of my abilities. No passion for winning means no championship 99.9% of the time.

The above statement doesn't even make sense!!
How can popularity EXPECT anything????

The popularity of somebody/something has nothing to do with stats.

Around this area, the Eagles football team is VERY popular, but that doesn't change their teams statistics. They still suck and their fans know it.

But if you change the statement -
statistics "could" add to ones popularity.

Popularity - The state of being liked by many people.

Statistics - The science of numerical facts. 2. The collection and arrangement of such facts.

What I mean by popularity is his fans expect him to do this and that, and he dosen't.

So you are changing definitions to suit your statements? Maybe they do expect "more" from him but that still has NOTHING to do with his popularity. His popularity didn't come from statistics or expections of anybody. His popularity came in many forms: the fans who followed his Dad, his personality, friends, new fans to the sport, and the media.
As far as being over-rated, I don't believe he is over-rated as much as it is more of an over-hyped, just as with Gordon, Johnson, Kahne, etc..
And that is ALL the media doing that!!!!
I like Junior, but I don't expect anything from him!! I don't like Gordon or Johnson, but I expect them to crash!! (On a weekly basis)

Expect - To look for, anticipate, await.

Yes, I quite understand how the draft works. But who cares? I will still do whatever it takes to keep my car in 1st, not just give them the win.

Jr has alot of fans, so he gets high expectations from the media because of it. And most of the fans expect him time and time again to win the championship and win alot of races, and he dosen't. I never said his statistics and expectations were the reason of his popularity, and I have said time and time again Jr got about 90% of his fans from Sr, and the rest were just fans of him because it was cool to be a Jr fan.

When someone receives expectations, they are EXPECTED to perform to that level. When they don't, it is called being over-rated. Over-rated and over-hyped are basically the same meaning, just a different word and different meaning.

Re: Is Junior Over-rated?

Yes, and people anticipate Jr to do well, and he dosen't. Again, over-rated.

Overrated - make too high an estimate of; "He overestimated his own powers" To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.

Fans/media make a high estimate of him, and he fails everytime. The fans/media also rate him too highly. Again, over-rated.

Fails? FAILS? Are you kidding me? Not every driver, not even your obvious icon, Gordon, does well in every race! Jeez, man!

Re: Is Junior Over-rated?

This thread's gotten kind of ugly. And of course, it's back to Gordon.

I realise that. Jeff qualified 36th at Vegas... not good. But I guess when Jr finishes 32nd and 40th in the first 2 races when the fans/media expected him to be a contender to win, dosen't mean he failed that expectation.

He is over-rated by the media and the fans. They think he is the best, he will win the championship every year, he will win 5 races a year. How is that not being over-rated? I believe the definition of over-rated states highly estimated. That's called being highly estimated, yet not performing up to that level. That's called over-rated.

I understand why you are defending Jr, and you have your opinions. But I know Jr fans that even admit he is over-rated. And I will leave it at that.

I didn't mention Gordon.......

And I've tried my best not to bring Gordon into the discussion. But other people seem to want to..... but I'll keep trying to dodge it.

I've noticed your restraint Mike, and I admire you for it. Did you take the same class that Tony Stewart took?

lol. no, I've just tried to stop the quality I put in my posts. I will get really passionate about NASCAR and my driver. Like sometimes I would put comments that looked to be a bash, but really wasn't. I've eliminated all that, and it has worked good so far, so I'll stick to that.
