O.K. Now I'm gonna give you my HONEST opinion. Yes Jr is over-rated/hyped. But it's the FANS' fault. Nobody elses. HE'S DALE'S BOY FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!! The "Prince of NASCAR"! The battle between the Gordon fans and the Jr. fans just proves how popular they both are, no matter what the debates are based on.

I'm a Jr. fan, not a Gordon fan, and nothing will change that. But what a fantastic "adult" forum to voice our opinions! Are there any other drivers discussed as much?

I also am a Stewart fan, and have seen subtle debates about him as well, but nothing compared to the Gordon/Jr. debates.

What would happen if any discussions regarding Gordon and Jr. were banned? Who would we discuss and/or debate?

Of course, "Is Junior Over-Rated" is the topic of this string. It's interesting that the only competitor up against this is Gordon.

Someone mentioned Jr. being "Over-Hyped". I guess that would be a more accurate classification that "Over-Rated".

Thanks to all of you for your civil and NASCAR-knowledgeable posts. I have enjoyed being a member of this forum whether you agreed with me or not!

Is Jr. overrated? Dunno, what's his rating? Yer all arguing about whether it's too hi or not, well, what is it? Is 20th too high or is 3rd too low? (Yeah, I know there's some folks out there who think #1 is too low .. but he ain't reached sainthood yet.)

Is he a top 10 driver? maybe .. he made the chase last year but the jury's still out about this year. Does making the chase mean he's a top 10 driver? If so, then that classification is bogus 'cause the absolutely best driver out there didn't make the chase. But then Tony has "emotional issues" from time to time .. Mark who did make the chase is on the other end of the spectrum and just doesn't seem to get fired up enough... But that's beside the point. Fact is Jr's a "pretty good" driver, maybe even better than most .. but he also has good equipment and a dam good R&D outfit

Is he the most popular driver? definitely. Ya can't deny he's the hottest property advertising-wise in the sport. Not Gordon nor Johnson nor Steward nor anybody else can hold a candle to him in that arena.

Is he the "Prince of NA$CAR? definitely not! He's not related to Richard any way that I know of - RICHARD PETTY IS THE KING! But I can't bring myself to proclaim Kyle the Prince either. I won't get into what I think of Dale Sr other than he's a long way from being the King.

So, I repeat my question: what's his rating? It ain't #1 .. I know that much.

I still have to come to Mike's defense as far as last nights discussion. He and i made what I believe were valid points for each side of the discussion. Mike is a little more passionate about his views than others are but the DISCUSSION was a good one and the end result was civil and agreeable. The accusation turned from overrated to over-hyped which I must agree with.

Hang in there Mike. I truly enjoyed the discussion with each of us on a different side of the fence. Last nights Mike was far better than the Mike from days gone by. Give credit where credit is due.

I think it hasn't been Gordon or the crew chief, but it has been his team. Gordon has not forgotten how to drive, but his team is just not as talented as his team in the 90's was. If the team can find what made Jeff successful in the 90's, he will be a force to be reckon with. He proved in 01 he can win a championship without Evernham, he won with Loomis. He proved in 2004 he can still contend for championships. I think Jeff should not be the person to blame, you should put the blame on Jeff's team. Jeff's team just dosen't have a clue on how to build Jeff's cars, although I have seen improvement, and hopefully that improvement carries on this year where they can finally win another championship.

Off topic! But that's my 2 cents about that issue.

Jr's team builds great cars. Jr just dosen't have the drive to drive the car to its full abilities like Gordon, Stewart, Johnson, etc does. I do think the team can step it up a notch, but if Jr can step up his drive, I think he will be alot better than he has shown he is.
