Re: No Out of Bounds On Last Lap?

BBW and trollmc08,

Interesting points of view. Why have they berated Sr. so much for that move? I agree, he was just hanging on to the car.

I didn't see the entire race, so I have no knowledgeable input. Enlighten me, guys ... He didn't pass anyone? Why do they call it the "pass in the grass"?

I found a video on youtube that tells the tale. I wish I could have found the actual live race footage. You'll see Earnhardt slide across Elliott's nose and nearly spin out. He merely corrected the car. I'm pulling to get this changed to "save you ass in the grass"

YouTube - The Winston 1987 - Earnhardt vs Elliott

Well PPS, I think the reason it is talked about so much it is meant in a good way. Because there is not any reason for that car not to have gone totally out of control when it hit the grass, but some how the magnificent Earnhardt held onto it and never backed off the gas don't know if anybody else in the world could do that.

Ahh yes, the pass in the grass... never heard anyone refer to it as cheating though. There wasn't any out-of-bounds rule back then was there? Either way he was forced down there. That was back when racin was still good.

No Q there wasn't an "out of bounds" rule then and still is not at that track.

Re: No Out of Bounds On Last Lap?

Ah, yes ... back when racing was good. Too many rules these days? Racing, like everything else has to evolve. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.

You?

Rules ??? Too many rules you ask ??? I don't find the number of rules objectionable, it's the rules themselves and this whole secrecy thing that NASCAR does with their rule book. The finish at the end of the Daytona 500 brought out a couple of questions that no one here could answer with nothing but opinions. Most major sports have rule books that are available for anyone to see, but Nooooo , not us.

I think Troll was just saying that many of us here really are forceful about our opinins and that you don't have to hesitate to speak your mind. We like it that way. We may not always agree but as the all powerful and great Bob Tanner would say "we can all agree to disagree".

Be careful what you wish for! Trust me, if I have a strong opinion, you'll hear it! May result in being banned from the forum.
