| Re: Michael Waltrip missed the Auto Club 500 What Mikey really needs is to learn how to whine like Jeff Gordon does. Then maybe he could get his way. |

| Re: Michael Waltrip missed the Auto Club 500 I believe Mikey's biggest problem, IRT his racing and not his product-pushing mouth and his egomanical brother, is that he's bitten off a lot more than he can chew. He's starting three new teams with a new manufacturer. Plus none of his teams are in the Chosen 35 and his one ace-in-the-hole, Jarrett has only three more guaranteed starts for the entire year unless he can stay in the Chosen 35. I have serious doubts that he can pull that off. After the Daytona fuel fiasco I doubt if TRD is too interested in giving Mikey's teams any extra help. I'd almost bet that they are willing to let him swing and wait until they can justify pulling the rug out from under him and making Germaine Racing their third Cup endeavor. If I didn't dislike the name Waltrip so much, I'd almost feel sorry for him. I think Mikey might have jumped into the deep end of the pool forgetting that he didn't have this swimming thing down pat.

Boy oh boy Bob that is just what I said a while ago. Being an owner/driver is nearly impossible today. Many have tried and many have failed. I've said for a very long time that I never ever though that Mike Waltrip was that good of a driver. Before his arrival at DEI his career stats were dismal at best. His DEI years were productive for the most part. Now he can barely qualify. I will give him credit in that if NASCAR qualified teams by speed he would have gotten in. Them's not the rules right now so he and TRD must live with it the way it is. I'm not real sure that by being just a driver would improve his abilities but I think it is factual to state that trying to do both jobs effectively is nearly impossible, and he is trying to run 3 teams. As George Sr said "Not gonna do it". |
