But maybe Sunoco gave Brian a kiss after the signed the contract. That's the least they could do.

A kiss?.... yeah... that's what they gave him, or he gave them.

Re: Sunoco tells Harvick to wear another helmet

here is a slight difference some NASCAR fans may not know about the deal Sunoco gave NASCAR to be the only auto fuel sponsor

Quote:
In 2004, Sunoco signed a 10-year marketing agreement to become the official fuel of NASCAR. Sunoco supplies the leaded gas, which is produced in its Marcus Hook, Pa., facility, free of charge for all Cup, Busch Series, and Craftsman Truck Series events. NHIS, according to public relations director Fred Neergaard, has underground tanks and receives a shipment of racing fuel before each NASCAR event. According to Hunter, Sunoco provides approximately 100,000 gallons of racing fuel for Cup races each season.
NASCAR paying price - The Boston Globe
thats right........NASCAR teams get all their fuel for free

here we are paying about $2.20 a gallon for gas.......so thats about $220,000 worth of free fuel each year

This would be like Nextel telling Jeff Burton to wear another helmet as well.

I knew that Sun Oil provided "free" gas for NASCAR but... When a TV spot is costing in the millions for a 30 second bit, $220,000 getting a decal on each car, the Sunoso sign in every pit area, multiple signs on each track's grounds, the right for Sunoco to be able to display the NASCAR logo on it's vehicles and promo material, and so on... $220K isn't a big price to pay, corporation-wise, is it?

Do you have the facts on their contract? Obviously that is not market value and I would be VERY surprised if that were the total cost.......especially seeing what they want for sponsorship of the Busch series

Re: Sunoco tells Harvick to wear another helmet

Here was some speculation from 2003 about the cost of the fuel sponsorship

NASCAR Seeking $150 Million Fuel Deal: NASCAR's asking price to replace ConocoPhillips' 76 as its official gasoline brand is $15 million a year in barter and cash for at least 10 years, Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal reports this week. Staff writer Terry Lefton says the current deal is valued at $5 million to $6 million a year, mostly barter as fuel for the Winston Cup, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series. The story says the probable contenders include ExxonMobil, Shell, Sunoco and BP/Amoco.(Winston Cup Scene Daily Newsletter)(7-14-2003)

So I'll bet its more than $225,000

Re: Sunoco tells Harvick to wear another helmet

If Sunoco doesn't want Harvick to wear a Shell logo on his suit, maybe Tony Stewart's Home Depot Car shouldn't be allowed to race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Kurt Busch's car shouldn't be allowed to run in the Budweiser Shootout.
