Fans

There have been several times that we've discussed "Racin/Driver" fans. Somebody in another thread said something about wanting to see Chevys win. What about manufacturer's fans? Or even sponsor's fans. I work for a company that sponsors a Cup Car, and some of the people I work with would be fans of a convicted murderer if he was behind the wheel. Whatcha think?

Hmmm --- even in my own little mind the directions this (could) take is mystifyin'.

Manufacturer fans - still out there for sure. Have become outnumbered now by the - "not foreign equipment" fans

Sponsor fans - not since ****** left? Could never fully grasp the possibility of there being sponsor fans. Perhaps Home Depot vs. Lowes, Coke vs. Pepsi, etc. -- . Will await further enlightening posts on this one.

Convicted offender fans - hmmmm. Here's a thought. Fill the entire field with drivers that are convicted offenders. Make it - The Race for Freedom. Upon it's completion I'd wager not one complaint of "points racing" would be heard. However there would likely be a huge discussion of whether the last caution flag was shown too early, too late, or perhaps not at all due to a theft.

For myself I have never been a manufacturer fan. Today, especially, the cars are so very much the same that I see no reason to hate one brand over another. The Toyota issue isn't so much about manufacturer as it is other issues to different posters.

The idea of racing to win versus points will always leave room for discussion. I like the idea of consistency in finishes but I've groen to believe that it is more important to race for the win and not points. It is one of the faults of our scoring system although they have tried to make adjustments that will now give more reason to shoot for the win.

Discussions about flags, finishes and whatever else will always be a source of enjoyment for some and disgust/anger for others. I feel as though I was enlightened with the information that was passed on after the Daytona 500. Whether or not the info that was posted here on these forums was 100% accurate may be a subject of discussion but in the meantime I feel as though I learned a few things.
