More F 1 Drivers To NASCAR

Quote:
Juan Pablo Montoya won't be the only former F1 driver in NASCAR much longer. Former F1 champ Jacques Villeneuve is trying to finalize a deal to run some Busch and Craftsman Truck races this season.

Villeneuve has a home in Switzerland, but he's moving back home to Canada and taking up residence in Montreal. Why? It's clear he wants to compete in the inaugural Montreal Busch race in July on the road course (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve) named after his father.

ESPN.com - Blount's Blitz: 500 finish got attention money can't buy
can this be the start if a trend ?

Villeneuve is a great driver in his own right, if he comes fulltime in NASCAR i have little doubt he will succeed

It could very likely be the start of a trend. If so then "so be it" I don't care if every good driver in the world comes to NASCAR that would only mean the racing will get even better.

Re: More F 1 Drivers To NASCAR

while i was posting this i couldnt help but think some of you will be upset by this news

i think some of you will feel it is an invasion of the great american sport of racing

personally i see it helping NASCAR in 2 ways

1. it can grow the sport in ways Jeff Gordon and others never can......F1 drivers are more popular in circles then JG ever will be, they have the oppertunity to help make NASCAR global

2. i for one welcome the chance to see NASCARs elite drivers go against those considered the greatest in the world........Montoya....Villeneuve.....and any others that come along......if JG and the rest of the NASCAR elite can beat the "worlds best" it is a great added bonus in my mind

troll, i agree totally

i think now its like if every college football conference never got to play each other, not even in bowl games.....that would be a travesty

now if a NASCAR team can work out a contract to sign Marco Andretti they will have something........he is about to be one of the best drivers in the world

Well simon I don't know much about any of the F1,Indy, or cart drivers I just think any good driver is a benefit to NASCAR. I stopped watching open-wheals when team orders over threw racing but they are welcome here and try there hand in what used to be a stock car.

Nothing but more popularity for NASCAR. Can F1 drivers succeed in NASCAR? Yes. Will they be able to? Who knows, we will have to wait and see. But this proves that NASCAR is growing and growing and will get more popular when an F1 drivers goes over.

I feel in great company when you include me with those names.

On to the subject at hand. First off he will be 46 years old before he is likely to even sit in a "stock car". Now is 46 too old ?? No .. not by itself. ZERO experience. I see that as a big issue. I relate to that in the same way I see Toyota being a threat in the near future. Without experience you end up as a safety issue and a vehicle in the way.

NA$CAR will welcome him with open arms just as they have done with Montoya. Without trying to sound sarcastic, NA$CAR will do whatever is necessary to add more $$$ to their pockets.

From the little history I recall of open wheel drivers entering NASCAR, I see no big stars in the series. Yes a few have won races and AJ even made a semi career with NASCAR in different capacities, but virtually none have ever enjoyed the status of the drivers who have come up through the ranks.

Other than wanting to rule Montreal and make a few more bucks, I'm not sure why anyone with no experience and time working against them would try to start a career in NASCAR.

There ya go. There's my two Canadian pennies ... actual value about 1.7 cents.

Re: More F 1 Drivers To NASCAR

Nobody wanted my opinion, but I'm gonna give it anyway! Correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't things used to be the other way around years ago? Didn't some drivers go from "Cars"(Stock car racing) to "Automobiles"(Open wheel)? Or as that twit Jackie Stewart called them;"Motaaaaaaahhhhhhh Caaaaaaahhhhhhhs!!!!! I think this all goes back to the old Dollar Bill. Fifty years ago there was more money in OW, today there's more money in(Gee, why do we call it NA$CAR?) Stock Cars? O.K. So that wasn't an opinion. I decided to ask a question instead.

Honored to be amongst those listed( I feel more like a Colt among Clydesdales).

This seems to already be possibly a trend. I see it as $$$ in both directions. Top drivers from another series(that are considered the best in the world) jumping ship to Na$car(what alot of the world considers to be nothing but good ol boys). Those drivers will get big money to switch.... Na$car gets big money in publicity and possible more fans switching allegiances(not all, but some). Do I welcome it? Not sure. They are racers. Both series have their different skill level towards driving. Can they survive in Na$cars... probably so.... competitive.... well.... only time would tell. If they come and and get their a$$es kicked by the "Good ol Boys"... Na$car would probably get a little more respect. I'm not sure. Could be good.
