Gordon or Earnhardt Jr. - Who Wins First?

Jonathan Baum of Yahoo! Sports had this to say in his March 13 column.

Quote:
The Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. watch continues, for those who care – which is many of you. Gordon drives a nice race (though Greg Biffle would disagree) and collects a top-five. He says he's happy, but Sunday's did not seem like a dominant performance from the 24. As for Earnhardt Jr., he was in position for a finish a little outside the top 10, which would have been solid for him at this Vegas track. But a late penalty bit him as well.
So which one of these guys will be the first to take a checkered flag in 2006? My money's on Gordon. He just looks like he's running better out there, race after race, and as many of you have pointed out elsewhere on the board, something just doesn't seem right with Dale Jr. this year.

Re: Gordon or Earnhardt Jr. - Who Wins First?

I honestly don't care. I was a huge Jr. fan, and Gordon hater, but the media focuses on them so much, you just end up getting burnt out hearing about them. There are 41 other cars on the track, and all I care about is who's running up front or moving up in the field. If the 24, and 8 are somewhere mid-pack, we dont need to see them running around doing laps or watching their pit stops. The networks do not do that to anyone else, except Jr. and Gordon. After a race, they even get interviewed when they take 14th place, whereas the media usually rarely talk to the 4th place driver if he's not one of their darlings.

Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne and Casey Mears are number 2,3 and 4 in the points, but you can bank on Gordon and Jr. getting much more prerace airtime than either of those 3.

Keep shoving steak at me, and I'm going to eventually want chicken.

I have always been a big Jr fan and a Gordon hater, like Nevadastars. Even though Gordon will probably get a win first I can't go with him. I'm going to say Jr because he's one of my fav's. Maybe in Atlanta. Ha ha.

I got to go with Jr. too, I really can't stand Gordo either. And that is why I don't play that Fantasy game, because I won't pick somebody who might win if I don't like them. Come on, Jr. help us out.

I know you guys and gals hate Gordon. The only reason is he "was" so good. Jr. is the same way. I think the chase has killed them. They are so worried about making the chase they have forgot about winning. I still have to go with Gordon on the first win though.

Heart says Jr. mind says Gordon. Going on performance alone this year, Gordon's team has been in position to win more than Jr's.

I agree. Consistency alone will give Gordon a better shot a winning first.

Re: Gordon or Earnhardt Jr. - Who Wins First?

Junior has a shot to win at Texas and Phenoix and Talladega, and Richmond, his good at those tracks and as much as I dont like him he really good at those tracks, just being honest. But I think Jeff has been real consitant this year (only track not to run in top 5 is Cali) so I go for Jeff at either Phenoix or taladega.

Re: Gordon or Earnhardt Jr. - Who Wins First?

The first 6 races were way more up Gordon's street than Earnhardt's. However, Earnhardt has maintained that until they got to Bristol .. they just didnt wanna shoot themselves in the foot. That being said, 6th in the standings .. and taking away California (giving him 13th) he'd be in 4th. Not to bad of a job of maintaining haha. The next set of races are right up Earnhardt's street .. and I expect to see him move up the standings by the time they hit Richmond.
